In AOTC, about a dozen wedge-shaped ships launched an assault on Geonosis, beginning the Clone Wars in earnest. In spite of the presence of both Separatist and Republic ships, this battle was mostly fought by ground forces.

Establishing space superiority does not appear to have yet become a tactical goal. Both sides concentrated on troop transports and the engagement of ground forces.

The fleet appeared to be wholly operated and crewed by clonetroopers; there are  "two hundred thousand units" (clones) ready to go at the time of the battle of Geonosis, with a million more on the way.

If each ship carries, or is crewed by, 1,000 clones, that would allow for two hundred ships. There may be more in reserve.
