Episode IV set the original standards for what was and was not possible in the world of Star Wars. As such, it sets the original tone for Star Wars. The benchmarks of ANH are in many ways the best benchmarks available for the entire genre of Star Wars; in general, other sources deviate in both directions from ANH.
