I admitt, that I have had nearly no knowledge about fuels - before reading a little bit about Diesel. But even I have know, that there are more than only one kind of diesel fuel:
Petrodiesel,
Synthetic diesel and
Biodiesel.
Read this again:
Of particular interest is the matchup between the power plants of Imperial and Federation ships. Although little can be said directly about the power outputs of the two, their energy reserves can be very well analyzed. Federation vessels use deuterium-fueled impulse engines (100-115 TJ/L, 630-740 TJ/kg) and deuterium/antideuterium fueled warp engines (14,800 TJ/L, 90,000 TJ/kg), while Imperial vessels use diesel-fueled fusion engines (70-230 TJ/L, 100-280 TJ/kg). For various reasons, the high end of this range is likely for Imperial vessels, while the low end is likely for impulse vessels.
Diesel is stated explicitly.
That means for me, that if one only says Diesel, I have to consider it as possible, that he has not meant Petrodiesel but only a chemical compound that also can be subsumed under the term Diesel. Because my limited knowledge - before reading a little bit about it - I wouldn't have known, if Diesel is defined through chemical properties or through its particular manufacturing method.
So you missed the fact that he stated that it could be hydrocarbon fuel? You know what that bloody well is? It's goddamn petroleum or an offshoot like kerosene.
The fact, that Jedi Master Spock has given a margin for the energy, that can be released, with »deuterium-fueled impulse engines (100-115 TJ/L, 630-740 TJ/kg)« with only 15 percent and a margin for »diesel-fueled fusion engines (70-230 TJ/L, 100-280 TJ/kg)« with 1'300 percent would have been enough reason for me to be convinced, that he has not meant one single kind of chemical compounds but a broad spectrum of chemical compounds and that he couldn't give a smaller margin because the margin depends on the kind of Diesel.
Make semantics your bitch! It's right on the companion site what his original position was and further clarification (ie: backpedeling) aside, when one states diesel it's pretty fucking obvious that he means the shit that goes in your car.
[*]I think, he could have been clearer on his site and maybe should have stated, that he does not have meant Petrodiesel but only chemical compounds that can be defined as Diesel.
And I see, how one could think, that he has meant Petrodiesel.
Of course when you say diesel, the average person is going to think that you mean the shit that goes in your car.
But that is no reason to state, the he is now »backpedeling from the claims of his site, which actually specify real diesel« and impliying with it, that he has meant real diesel, when he has wrote that site - and is now lying, if he claims now, that he has not meant real Diesel.
He wouldn't be »backpedeling from the claims of his site« but merely clarifing what he has meant.
He got called on his BS and changed it in order to avoid more controversy. But hey I must be attacking his "human dignity".
And if he has not really meant real Diesel but has caused with his not clear enough words a wrong impression or has simply choosed the wrong words, he is not lying now by saying, that he hasn't meant real Diesel when he has wrote that site.
Except we have two statements in twqo seperate locations, both saying a different thing. Maybe someone should put his "clarification" on his Wiki so people will at least have two statements saying A and one B.
[*]If you would still think, that DIESEL FUSION is absurd, but would think, that it is irrelevant, because you can rebut the theory that canon shows that Star Wars use DIESEL FUSION, and that's why you can ignore the question, if DIESEL FUSION is possible for the time being, you should have said so.
Come up with a convincing argument for it actually being in the canon and we'll talk further.
Your stop to claim, that the whole theory was absurd, somthing good for a chuckle, something that, according to Darth Servo, gets closer and closer to scooter level delusions, is usually considered as an implied concession.
Taking a different route in a debate is not a concession except to those so desperate for victory that it's a joke.
The possibility or impossibility of DIESEL FUSION would be the strongest argument. It would be better to show, that DIESEL FUSION is impossible than to argue the highly controversial canon rules. Usually one would stop to push the stronger argument only, if one sees, that one can't win with it. [/list]
You understand that I only have to claim that it's not possible or not supported by canon right? You have the positive claim so it's up to you to prove it.
