Years VS Generations?

Post by Lucky » Sun Feb 19, 2012 1:24 am

In the OT Obi-Won states the Republic stood for a 1000 generations.

In the PT Palatine states the Republic stood for 1000 years.

Am I correct?

Why should we take the word or an old man who can't remember what happened about 20 years ago accurately? He couldn't even remember Anikin was Darth Vader after all. Why should we assume he would remember some peace of unimportant trivia?

I have another theory: what if "Generations" is different in Star Wars, more akin to what we think when we say "generation 1919"? - that is, all people born that particular year. Then it isn't contradiction.

And if you don't agree with above, then someone must be lying - and given that Obi-Wan has proven himself to be lying son of a b*** (remember "Darth Vader killed your father" and "only Imperial Stormtroopers are so accurate", althought previous one actually supports theory in first paragraph more), and Palpatine was talking in front of people who presumably knew what he was talking about, it's easy pick.

It was probably just changed, that's all.
