I recently decided to go to YouTube, and type in things like cold plasma, and plasma stealth looking for a clip from an old documentary I had seen years ago on TV about the topics because I recalled the fact the trash compactor had been magnetically sealed, and because of the magnetic field, the blaster bolt Han fired goes bouncing all over the place

Note the similarities between the plasma "shields" and shields in Star Wars.
Plasma(the fourth state of matter) can at least in theory be used to make things like radar less effective, and it could have the effect of defending something from blasters and turbolasers.

Plasma windows act like solid objects, again like we see many Star Wars shields

So the idea is that Star Wars shields are basically just plasma contained in a magnetic field. Htis would make things like madar and radar less effective leading to the various sensors we see commonly used(visual, inferred, and magnetic field sensing).
So the theory is the people in Star Wars are not morons who can't design sensors worth a damn, but that Star Wars shields act as stealth systems that render many sensor systems far less effective then they otherwise would be.

Re: Plasma Stealth and Star Wars Shields
Gut. Plus the plasma in question just needs to remain invisible to the naked eye on high temp and pressure. The hardest part is having it conform to a given shape outside of a chamber, a projected magnetic field. Eventually relays on the hull would help drive the magnetic field, but some holes would have to be allowed for sensors and fire to pass through.
The noise part would be reduced considerably if no energy could leak into the surrounding air to produce sound waves. The interaction between the shield and matter of the environment should be minimized: the plasma comprising the barrier would have to be tightly contained so its constant volumetric acceleration would always be properly nullified, so there wouldn't be sound waves produced. The surrounding air would need to be expelled from the zone where the barrier would be. This means that as the shield gets raised, at first there would be a visible interaction between the magnetic field and the air, like in TPM with Anakin's N-1, but then said air would be kept away while the proper plasma would flow into that vacuumed shell, to form the barrier.
