Sovereign class starship vs Negh'Var
Sovereign class starship goes against Negh'Var class starship at STL combat. No tricks, no cloak, just standard shootout. Each ship is aware of another, in empty space, with no allies and they are starting just bit outside of each other's maximum effective weapons range (let's assume it's equal).

Always the Negh'Var in this situation as the sov it just not manouverable to avoid the incoming fire from it while the Negh'Var it just a balls to the wall warship setup for damage and tanking.Picard wrote:Sovereign class starship goes against Negh'Var class starship at STL combat. Re: Sovereign class starship vs Negh'Var
The problem here is that while we know quite a lot about the Galaxy and Sovereign-class starships for obvious reasons, we do not know a whole heck of a lot about the Negh'Var-class simply because we only really see it in the Prime Universe one time. Yeah, it looks pretty tough, as it tanked a photon torpedo hit at least one time that we know were capable of outright destroying a BoP, and causing severe damage to Vor'chas. It's got that nifty disruptor cannon, though it looks like it has to spend time dumping power into it before firing.
And a bit of clarification, is this the Negh'Var from the main universe, or the Mirror Universe counterpart, which was much bigger, but clearly somewhat less advanced in some areas from it's main universe counterpart.

to be fair Sovies seemed like they could take terrible terrible abuse if the big E is any indication that thing was being near constantly blasted on by the Scimitar and managed to withstand it for a good amount of time.Kor_Dahar_Master wrote: Always the Negh'Var in this situation as the sov it just not manouverable to avoid the incoming fire from it while the Negh'Var it just a balls to the wall warship setup for damage and tanking.
mind you the Negh'var was a monster standing up too and single handedly breaching the shields of DS9 not even Dominion heavy cruisers could do that

The Neg'Var only punched through part of Deep Space Nine's shields, and then only after it's shields had taken several minutes worth of continuous pounding by dozens of ships.

True but the dominion fleet pounded the station for quite some time before dukat ordered his entire fleet (not just one ship) to target a certain section to drop them.Mike DiCenso wrote:The Neg'Var only punched through part of Deep Space Nine's shields, and then only after it's shields had taken several minutes worth of continuous pounding by dozens of ships.

Not necessarily the same circumstances. The time between "Way of the Warrior" and "Call to Arms" is nearly 2 years. Remember how fast Deep Space Nine was upgraded with untested weapons and shields to put a stop to the Klingon fleet, now imagine how signficantly it was all upgraded to handle the Dominion with all that time.

Main universe one.And a bit of clarification, is this the Negh'Var from the main universe,
On that note, I always assumed that, while Klingon ship were more militarily-oriented, Federation ones had technological edge. And Sovereign strikes me as being far more militarized vessel than Galaxy class, plus it is not much smaller than Negh'var; so I think it should be at least equal to Negh'var.
