I believe it's the second to last bridge scene - it's late in the episode.
Chakoteya wrote: KIRA: Maybe not this time. I'm reading residual neutrino levels. Looks like one maybe two Maquis raiders behind the fourth moon. They're on the run.
SISKO: Go after them. Full impulse.
NOG: Engine Room, Bridge. Full impulse.
DAX: Onscreen. Shields up. Charge phaser banks.
CREWWOMAN: Aye, sir.

Code: Select all

			SISKO NOG
		(to Dax) Engine Room, Bridge.
	Go after them. Full impulse.
	Full impulse.
		(to Kira DAX
Onscreen. Shields up. Hard to starboard.
		(to Worf) Full thrusters.
	Charge phaser banks.
									KIRA
			WORF ... encode main
		(overlapping) viewscreen, set
	... Bleed fifteen magnification grid
	percent plasma to
	phaser matrix...
Now, this is, as I said, an overlapping medley of lines. We can - as Chekoteya does - confirm that most of the material spoken comes directly off the script. We can also confirm that Worf says something, but the only word I could make out is "phasers."

For the moment - for the purposes of analysis - this is the most specific information on what percentage of power can be shunted to phasers, even if its precise canonical status is iffy, so I intend to keep using 15% as the best estimate of what percentage of total power output the Defiant can shunt to phasers. It's roughly consistent with our other information relating phasers and engines for the Defiant, namely "The Sound of Her Voice."

Interesting. I don't suppose you can provide a link to the YouTube video of that scene?

Around 3 minutes in. You have to listen very carefully. I don't think you'll be able to get any more out of it than I did, but you're welcome to try. I can barely distinguish Worf's voice at all, and the only word I could pick out was "phaser" or "phasers."

You need speakers with a better range. I happen to have some sort of abnormally good supercheap speakers, and can make out Worf's "phaser matrix" and a vowel sound that would fit in the middle of "plasma", just from the Youtube video (which I'd expect to be some of the crappier audio available).

If at some point I come across that season on DVD for rent or something, I'll see if I can't attack the scene with something like Audacity and see what more can be picked out.

And yeah, the TPM droid control ship dish appears to still be there in HD . . . if I haven't posted to that effect already (I was looking at it a few months ago), then it's in a forthcoming update (I remember typing it at some point). The excess darkness around the dish (which looks for all the world like normal explosion scoring as commonly done to show damage) hid the dish when viewed at lower resolution in the one main post-torpedo scene in which it was visible years ago. (Turns out as the sphere's exploding it's visible again, but nobody noticed that at the time, myself unfortunately included).

But I don't feel bad for being wrong on that one. After all, given how many things I have correctly noticed (even at low resolution) and publicized to the debate community at large (the arrow comes to mind) . . . well, nobody's perfect. :-)

However, the overall premise of fighters being able to whip capital ship ass is well-proven thanks to TCW, so although a particular point was wrong the overall argument remains quite valid.

It's tough to hear what exactly is being said by Worf, but definitely I keep hearing the phaser part of it. So whatever else, it does have to do with charging up the phasers or having them ready in some fashion. And I agree with Robert, a cleaner copy on DVD would be nice along with high-quality stereo.

As for admitting you are wrong, Robert, there's no crime in it. It's an integral part of what sets you apart from people like Saxton and Wong, who either knowingingly or otherwise will not admit that something was a mistake and take steps accordingly to correct it. In that way you are demonstrating part of how the Scientific Method is supposed to work; being able to accept when your data was wrong, and then reformulating a new hypothesis from the new and (presumably) better data.
