Well that is pretty much how it would look if the other ships keep accelerating but one stops.

But that's just it, it doesn't stop accelerating, or even just stop there, it starts moving backwards (you can notice this by looking at the background during the scene)...

That's a trick due to the camera moving up, but slower than the fighters.
Relative to the camera, the destroyed Y-wing, can't keep up with the acceleration.
Even the ejected debris seem to give the impression that the ship is falling, only because debris are ejected forward and healthy Y-wings keep accelerating.

What's most pathetic is how they cannot even properly evade, nor outrun a slow moving multi-hundred meters wide pancake.

Really, globally I don't think this is good material to look at. I think I'll stick with the dialogue. The aims are ludicrously bad, even at distances of ten meters, and that applies to clones who are supposed super badass in comparison.

Well, in fairness to the Republic cruisers, the ion bolt had expanded to well over a kilometer wide when it hit them. But yes, in comparison to the Romulan's plasma torpedo seen "Balance of Terror", which moved at high-warp velocities, and could track a target even when fired off-axis, the Malevolence fired ion bolts are just pathetic.

At least some of the writers for TCW are making some fun of this, like the battle droid on the Malevolence's bridge who noted in frustration: "I still can't seem to hit anything!"

Just re-watched the DVD of the movie and I noticed something I didn't notice before. You know that scene where a Venator engages vulture droids inside an atmosphere? Well, as it turns out, it was also slugging it out with a Munificent-class Frigate. A bit odd considering the lack of nuclear like effects, no?

Great catch there, l33telboi! This time they can't get away with the dialed down settings excuse. Warsies might try invoking neutrino sinks.

Oh another thing, are there any flak bursts visible in that battle? If there are, it might give us a clue as to their nature since they are going off inside a planet's atmosphere as opposed to airless space.

I mentioned it in the ICS thread but it drowned in an ocean of trash talking and fallacies.
Still, a good thing to insist on it again.

Don't be surprised. I'd mentioned that battle in my Clone Wars Quickie Tech Review back in August, to which the opposition has chosen to fail to respond.

Alright, just watched the latest episode and enjoyed it like always. A few interesting tech related revelations too.

- Munificent-class Frigates have shields strong enough to deflect largish asteroids. The asteroids were, at a glance, no wider then perhaps 50m, and moving rather slowly. But that's just eyeballing it. Though the comment "That didn't sound good" uttered by the droid afterwards suggests they wouldn't like getting hit by much more then those. Probably why they set full power to front shields and left their rear exposed.

- Ranges are again shown to be similar to that seen in the movies.

- Same with speed, Anakin's tweaked fighter isn't accelerating at thousands of G's even though the engines are supposed to be boosted beyond normal output (this is in the episode guide).

- Tanks destroy capitalships. Yeah, that's the weirdest bit. But the shields were dropped on the rear of the Munificent-class vessels so it's not impossible that something as small as a tank-shell would damage them. It’s just the level of damage that’s strange. The ships got really hammered.

- Two Munificents crash into each other and take noticeable damage (huge explosions erupting from their sides). This at very low velocity.

The very fact that they have to push frontal shields at full and leave the rear unprotected, or barely protected, while considering the size and speed of collisions, just confirms what we knew about SW and pretty much fucks up big times the wankery that's been going on for a bit less than a decade.

Remember, according to the ICS, the Munificent-class is supposed to generate enough power to be able to blast-melt a 1000 km wide ice moon in one shot with the main frontal dual TLs.

I'm surprised they haven't attempted to outright discount the series as canon.

They can't. The TV series has already been stated to be a new level of canon called T-level Canon which is higher than C-level Canon, which the ICS belongs to. If the series and the ICS contradict each other, the series wins out due to its higher level.

SDN/Warsie solution: only the films count as canon now, and of course visual evidence will concur with the ICS.

That would be even worse for them, because nothing in the movies support the ICS...
