You have Tomorrow is Yesterday in which just turning on the shields effectively cloaks the Enterprise, and then you have the same thing happening in "The Future's End".

Shields by the Federation at least are gravity based as shown in Star Trek: Generations.

From "The Enterprise Incident" we know Romulan cloaks just plug into the deflector shield controls. They are very much plug and play, and work through the shields, but can not actually make the shields do things they could not already do.

We know that some cloaks generate some strange form of radiation that makes things invisible like the Suliban cloaks seen in Enterprise, but those cloaks don't generate enough of the stuff on their own, and are always housed inside the ship.

We know of only two ships total that could fire while cloaked. General Chang's Bird-Of-Prey and the Scimitar.

We know a Galaxy class has a reactor output of about 3 gigatons a second while idling.

(That isn't the reactor exploding oddly enough)

So that large station in Riddles should have a reactor output comparable if not exceeding an idling Galaxy class if only because it should have space for lots of reactors. Ya, I know, now that I wrote this all out my reasoning is not as air tight as I'd like.

There are problems with Data's quote. The actual issue of what he said can not only be hard to understand, impart because watts and joules can so easily be mixed up while talking to someone (I've done it myself--it's not about intelligence, it's more about a slip of the tongue), but also because other means of 'watts per ____' do exist.

The major problem I have though is that while this is an immense amount of energy, the fact is that...well, it's an immense amount of energy that the Enterprise D shouldn't be generating while sitting idle. 3 Gigatons a second? That amount of energy output is simply absurd. I suppose it's possible that they're running some kind of tests on the ship systems or something, but I myself find it highly, highly irregular.

In regards to the tabletop fusion reactor, we actually don't know how far the reactor goes down. That one room couldn't have been the entire base, so it's possible that there might have been a second or even a third floor where the reactor goes further down. Very much so if we want to consider that this is a fusion reactor, so it's going to need a great deal of fuel if it's going to run at 4 gigawatts for long periods of time.

It's what the episode shows us, Mith. Go back through the "A rather... startling... discovery" thread and read my exchange with Lucky on the issue of Q's interference with the warp core and Geordi's report where he states there was nothing abnormal going on, and throughout the episode, no mention of a high-energy test is underway.

One way to explain this is that systems are on stand-by for use, which means the warp nacelles's coils are charged up, and the nav deflector is also powered up. This situation also matches up with that of Voyager's in "Revulsion" with the 5 million gigawatts running through a single conduit while the ship was largely idling around on impulse power only. It also matches up well with the Ba'neth station's cloaking field's 9 million terawatt output from "Riddles".

That is why no one is using a single quote, but a number of quotes that all point to the same thing.

1) Duck blinds are normally small, and scientists who study animals often have tiny one or two room places to live in the field. From what little we see they have nearly everything they need in that one room, and the place had to be quickly built into the side of a cliff without the natives noticing.

2)We see what looks like a reaction chamber at one end of the table, and undefined rectangular things on the other side. I see no sign the reactor is larger then what is on top of the table.

3) Hydrogen can be stored as a solid, and the fact the Federation has things like Dilithium to enhance the output I fail to see a problem with the reactor being so small. Remember what Dilithium was doing to planets in "Pen Pals"?
