Rebel snowspeeders are replaced by M-1s on 1-for-1 basis. How does this go?

The Rebels lose do to no longer having a viable weapon against the walkers. The M-1 is a good rifle as I understand it, but it only fires a 7.62x63mm round. The Rebels will need to use the X-wings.

He probably means some model of the M-1 Abrams main battle tank.

Well, if walkers could get away with all the natural traps found on frozen landscapes, then the incredibly lighter tanks and their treads should do fine.
Now, rebels being dumb, they'll probably still attack head on.
Btw, the tanks won't even be able to fly above step hills.
But tanks will most logically be used to spam the walkers from a distance.

It is an interesting thing to observe there, but the walkers would have an advantage.
Not only don't they have to care much about ballistics, but they have also demonstrated great range on maximum firepower.
That is not even the most important point because even if their range would be inferior, they seem to be well armoured and, above all, offer a rather small profile to hit.
It is not perfect, but the tanks basically have to hit the legs (which will be very hard) or the main body. The head if obviously exposed first, but when you look at how armour is slopped, depending on the type of ammo that's used, the Imperial could literally laugh at the enemy fire.

That would make more sense, but aren't Abrams tanks M1 A1 or M1 A2?

Yeah, there are two main variants so far, the M1-A1 Abrams and M1-A2 Abrams. As for how the cannons would do against the armor, I don't really know. The blasters on the Snowspeeders were not all that impressive, and they were still able to penetrate the neck armor and destroy a walker. The tanks aren't that maneuverable, so they won't likely avoid enemy fire. It wil lall depend on how well the tank's main gun works against the walker. If they don't work well, then the tanks aren't going to be much good since they'll have to be at close range in order to hit the walkers' weak spots. If they can penetrate the armor, though, then the Empire loses a lot more walkers, and may even be stopped in its tracks until the rebels leave.

I'd actually wonder how well attached the armor on an AT-AT is. When they fall in The Empire Strikes Back the armor king of flops around. An Abrams might be able to knock off the armor.

It's more likely that the armor is hinged and held down by its own weight, or some latch which broke. This is because AT-AT's are transport vehicles and it would act as a large door for loading cargo.
