I remember watching an episode of TOS when I was 5 where some alien shrunk the Enterprise down to about the size of a football, and, for the life of me, I can't remember the name of that episode, or even find it. Do I just have a poor recollection of "Catspaw", or is this some a different episode?

You are getting two episodes mixed up; "Catspaw" and "Requiem for Methuselah". In "Catspaw", the Enterprise is not shrunk down, but a 3 inch long silver metal effigy is made by Sylvia to demonstrate the power of the aliens' "sympathetic magic".

In Requiem, Flint uses his powers to shrink the Enterprise down to a 3 foot representation on a tabletop:

The miniature used there is the original prototype 33 inch long model of the Enterprise, but was seldom used in FX shots throughout the series after the original "The Cage" pilot was completed. Mostly the model was used in a variety of publicity shots with the actors holding or posing next to it.

Ah, thanks. As I said, I last saw that episode when I was 5, so I'd forgotten a lot of things.

The interesting thing is just how ridiculously powerful these two events are for Star Trek. The fact that Sylvia and Korob were able to affect the 289 meter, nearly million ton Enterprise with what appeared to be a trinket representing it, and from what is at least hundreds, if not a thousand or more km away is really damn scary.

Flint's stasis weapon is just as bad ass, actually far more so, because it gives an enemy no time to react at all. No shields, no weapons up, just blink and they're on the table top. Tis a pity that Flint did not give this technology to the Federation as it would render battles over in a matter of seconds and no one being the wiser of why dozens or even hundreds of ships suddenly vanished without a trace.

Catspaw involved some type of super-advanced alien technology which neither side understood, IIRC, but it was no more powerful than many other aliens they encountered like Val, Apollo, Landru and others. However Flint was some Mary Sue outrider that I think can be dismissed, particularly due to inconsistency.

That may all be true, but they are both canon incidents. Sylvia and Korob's people we know next to nothing about, but they are very powerful beings, whoever they are. As for their "technology", it wasn't they didn't understand what they did, but they had trouble understanding ours. The wanted to so that they could combine the two together to create something even more powerful.

Flint's reducer tech is an outlier, but still it does make you wonder about the possibilities, if the Federation ever got ahold of that. Or what would happen if Kirk and company had walked into Flint's living room, and found a perfectly detailed "model" of a star destroyer.

But Roddenberry wasn't involved in the Turd Season IIRC. So that brings up the issue of who decides what's canon, while Gene was alive?

Roddenberry never disavowed what had happened in TOS' third season, even the events of "Turnabout Intruder". But that's a different discussion for the Evidence forum.
