Next Generation Remastered Now Offical

Post by Mike DiCenso » Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:18 pm

Trekcore is reporting that TNG is finally being remastered and released in Blueray HD.

They report that the special effects will be recompositioned, rather than upconverted. Whatever exactly that means.

Recompositing meaning reassembling all the different parts into a final render. It could easily mean redoing the VFX from scratch when needed.

Indeed, I'm interested in how this will alter some of the effects seen, and how that will impact the debate.

And who knows, maybe the price will drop a bit for all of TNG. ^_^

The price for the older DVD sets should drop enormously as people give them up or stop buying them in favor of the newer ones. Even at the used stores, I've seen the DVD prices drop big time.

As for special effects, I think we'll see some of them redone, but most of them only need clean up since they still hold up well after all these years.

Phaser effects might be updated to match later ones (that is, moved from orange to yellow). However, as TOS used red phasers, I see no real reason for it. Color change might be due to increase in energy intensity or changes in technology.

I'm thinking they'll mostly be fixing minor gaffes, like the energy beam shooting out of the Captain's Yacht in "Encounter at Farpoint" instead of the phasers as per the dialog, or the phaser beam shooting out of the E-D's forward photon torpedoe tube in "Darmok".

TOS had red, green (piece of the action) and blue (journey to babel, Who Mourns for Adonais?), they also fired a shot where they were a kinda purple color (Journey to Babel).

I do hope they redo some of the CG like they did with TOS.
