A Defiant Class Starship vs a Corellian Gunship

Post by User1469 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 3:18 pm

Mid Range Megatons for the Corellian Gunship (50)
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DP20_frigate
Low Range Megatons for the Defiant Class. (20)
Standard Defiant only. No cloak.
Generic Captains for each. No fleeing to warp or hyperspace, no transporters.

Battle takes place in orbit around a small planet.

Who wins?

Btw no argueing firepower calcs.

I love both ships:)

probably the more maneuverable tougher ship with the better damage soak least wise as far as I've seen the little D's can take some serious abuse

incidentally the gun ship looks really cool like something out of those old pulp comics about space colonization

Since we can't argue firepower (which I believe is wrong), then I agree with Admiral Breetaî, but since we do not know how maneuverable the DP20 is, it's a tough call...

that thing while looking really awesome and all does look like it has allot of juicy spots to shoot at and I'm not sure from reading the description whether it has the speed or agility to cover all of its vulnerable spots from Defiant fire

I guess the question i should be asking is the Defiant run by a generic commander who at least has some combat experience? or are you sporting the little D your typical hippie and is the fight done IC?

A Tactile commander is a must for Trek, and yes reg competence for both Captains.

What do we know of the maneuverability of the DP20?

Quantum torps at long range, no?
Ships in SW, at least of that tonnage, have shown nothing of the maneuverability of their Trek counterparts. Not to say that accuracy is considerably worse (that said the Defiant has no phaser strip so it's just dumb firing mode, straight ahead, which forces to approach the target on a collision course).

If the Defiant is going to explode, their better maneuverability can guarantee them nice probabilities of a proper kamikaze run. The antimatter will do the rest.

Mr. O. Memory Alpha has the Defiant with phaser strips.

The Defiant fired a phaser beam from the bridge area in "Paradise Lost."

I give this to the defiant for its better range and maunverability. The gunship is supposed to be almost as fast as a Y-Wing and we saw some pretty serious acceleration...

However: If we just get into a situation where they two ships keeping doing passes against one another, the gunship will win, by virtue of OP giving it superior fire power.

Superior firepower? ...not quite. If I understood it correctly, firepower was per shot, which means that Defiant still enjoys slight firepower advantage (4 guns, each capable of firing 4-12 shots per second, that is 80 to 240 megatons per second, without torpedoes and beam emitters. Gunship might, based on ANH chase scene, put out 2 to 3 shots per second total, that is 100 to 150 megatons per second). So firepower/second is similar.

Thats a corellian corvette that was modified. Not a Gunship.

The Gunship is ment to spam firepower.

Ah... my unfamiliarity with non-canon kicks in again.
