Where is the proof that SWverse people abhor Teleportation?
For a long time Saxton and the cult of Wong have imposed the idea that the SWverse people would find teleportation abhorrent. be it Trek, SG or whatever universe happens to use it. (Even Dr Who has used their own variation of this tech by the way). But the thing is no such tech has ever been seen or heard in the movies, novels etc. Fact is they have never encountered or come across it so how did the warsies determined that they would automatically and without question abhor it?
And thank God there is no such proof (If there is I'd really like to see it) well unless you consider Wong's ultra super biased fan-fiction evidence, because it really limits their options, because say they encounter a Stargate device (given the fact that it very much works like a long distance teleporter demolecurazing the individuals sending an energy stream thru the artificial wormhole to the other stargate that has been dialed where then people, materials are re-assembled, yes that's how it works get used to it) even though it would be of enormous benefit to them they would not use it because of such beliefs, which so far only seem grounded in what Saxton and the cult of Wong have spread around and not actual canon evidence.

And the same people fall all over themselves in admiration of the DS.PunkMaister wrote:For a long time Saxton and the cult of Wong have imposed the idea that the SWverse people would find teleportation abhorrent. be it Trek, SG or whatever universe happens to use it. Truth is, they cannot accept anything in ST which is technologically superior to SW, so when they do find something that is, they have to invent excuses as to why the SW universe doesn't have the technology.
In this case, the "moral repugnance" over being dissasembled and re-assembled...

Which again is ridiculous as is not based on fact but on irrational hatred of all things Trek even though Teleportation is not by all means exclusive to Trek and many other universes use variations of such technology such as Stargate heck as I mentioned the Stargate itself is basically for all intended purposes a long range teleportation device. The Culture as I understand also has similar tech as well as Dr Who. One could argue that Stargate transporter tech is superior but that's probably just because they have over a million year head start in the technology's development and refinement...Praeothmin wrote:And the same people fall all over themselves in admiration of the DS.PunkMaister wrote:For a long time Saxton and the cult of Wong have imposed the idea that the SWverse people would find teleportation abhorrent. be it Trek, SG or whatever universe happens to use it. For Asgard tech certainly, though the other transporter/teleportation technology looks about on the same level as blog standard Trek technology.Praeothmin wrote:And one would probably be right, too... :)Punkmaister wrote:One could argue that Stargate transporter tech is superior but that's probably just because they have over a million year head start in the technology's development and refinement...

What other? The ring transporters are just as reliable as Asgard transports if only for shorter distances and besides those 2 the only other transport tech on the show is that of the Wraith and even that tech is quite a bit ahead of what Trek transporters at least UFP ones offer. Have no idea about how far advanced transporters of say Organians might be but one has to assume that at the very least they managed to fix nearly all the bugs that plague UFP transporters...Mike DiCenso wrote:For Asgard tech certainly, though the other transporter/teleportation technology looks about on the same level as blog standard Trek technology.Praeothmin wrote:And one would probably be right, too... :)Punkmaister wrote:One could argue that Stargate transporter tech is superior but that's probably just because they have over a million year head start in the technology's development and refinement...

Well, Punkmaister, if we're talking about the "ring" transporters, as the ones seen in the "Stargate" movie, then ST ones are more advanced.
You don't need the rings to "confine" the body to transport, you can do "point-to-point" teleportation of humans, and even Shuttles, and you don't need an identical "receiver" at the other end for the transported stuff or people to appear.
If we're talking about the "Stargates" themselves, then yes, they are infinitely more advanced, if only in the distance they can travel... :)

The limitations you state of the ring transports do not make them less advanced is akin to compare a 50's dump truck to a present day SUV. both are vehicle, both are for transportation of people and cargo but the cargo and people load for each are radically different. Ring transporters are far more reliable and safer than ST transporters that can end up creating clones of you and whatnot. These problems are nonexistent in Ring Transports and while in ST they are the exception rather than the rule, the fact remains that compared to SG tech they still have some bugs to work out.Praeothmin wrote:Well, Punkmaister, if we're talking about the "ring" transporters, as the ones seen in the "Stargate" movie, then ST ones are more advanced.

Here's one thing that argues against this myth; if SW was in possession of the technology, why not use it to transport clones or droids (especially droids) or non-living cargo to and from planets? Nothing stops the SW people from doing that... assuming that they do have the scientific and engineering capabilties to make a workable teleportation system.

The problem is that the system SG tech uses to teleport with is probably more reliable because they are willing to sacrifice the ability to transport anywhere on a planet or a starship by with what amounts to telepod to telepod only transport.PunkMaister wrote:The limitations you state of the ring transports do not make them less advanced is akin to compare a 50's dump truck to a present day SUV. both are vehicle, both are for transportation of people and cargo but the cargo and people load for each are radically different. The only Telepod to Telepod trasnporter tech I know off in Stargate are the ring transports and the Transports used in Atlantis, Asgard Transport does all what the Trek transporters do more reliably and without any of the bugs that plague ST teleporters which again is only because they have over a million year head start in that tech refinement arena. I wonder how Scotty would feel to see an Asgard transport in action!Mike DiCenso wrote:The problem is that the system SG tech uses to teleport with is probably more reliable because they are willing to sacrifice the ability to transport anywhere on a planet or a starship by with what amounts to telepod to telepod only transport.

The Asgard transporters aren't blog standard SG systems, at least not until late in SG1 and in the SGA series, and only then an Asgard was there to babysit the thing. Impressive? Not having watched the later SG1 and SGA stuff, I can't say whether or not your over-enthusiastic assessment of Asgard transporter tech is accurate.PunkMaister wrote:The only Telepod to Telepod transporter tech I know off in Stargate are the ring transports and the Transports used in Atlantis, Asgard Transport does all what the Trek transporters do more reliably and without any of the bugs that plague ST teleporters which again is only because they have over a million year head start in that tech refinement arena. Asgard transports can beam a whole darn buiding from a planet's surface into space. Until anyone can prove that ST teleporters can do the same with no trouble whatsoever my assertion that Asgard teleportation is superior to that of Trek stands...Mike DiCenso wrote:The Asgard transporters aren't blog standard SG systems, at least not until late in SG1 and in the SGA series, and only then an Asgard was there to babysit the thing.
