are you talking about the special release of the newer editions which INCLUDED the original release? because that's what i was complaining about. if there has been some new release of the original films i'd like to know, because the ones i have are 4:3, and not only are they 4:3, they are a direct rip of the laserdisc versions which are FUCKING LETTERBOXED. there are no words to describe how much this baffles me. when displayed at it's native resolution on my 16:9 television, i have the big black bars on both sides of the picture because it is 4:3, and then i have black bars above and below the picture, because the 4:3 image is letterboxed as there were no 16:9 televisions when the laserdisc versions were released. what i get is a movie playing in a window in the middle of my tv. this is unsatisfactory.
and of course if you just zoom it to fill the screen, you end up with a picture so blurry i might as well just go back to my ancient vhs tapes. if i still had a vcr.

Of course he did, mojo...mojo wrote:i am CONVINCED george lucas did this on purpose.
He knew there would be people stupid enough to by the OT on VHS, then buy them again on VHS, only 16:9 with enhanced colors, and then the Widescreen Special Edition OT on DVD, and then the PT on DVD, TCW on DVD, and eventually the entire saga on BlueRay...
But I am much more intelligent than that...
I don't have the BlueRay saga...
Yet... :(

Re: Original Trilogy Blueray Changes
i bought a dvd player to watch star wars. right now i am in the process of explaining to my wife why i need to buy a blu-ray player to again watch star wars. it is a sad cycle.
on the other hand, it doesn't really bother me to buy star wars over and over again. i won't buy the pt though. i'll buy the $45 blu-ray ot rather than the $90 complete saga. i made the mistake of buying the pt on dvd and i've never watched it. it's actually still in the cellophane.
