If it's important that it's "explosions" in the giga-tonnage range, that might not actually be a contradiction. The ICS claims that turbolasers are massless beams, hence their recoil would be less. Haven't read Slave Ship myself though, so I dunno.

Either way, it doesn't disprove the many other references that pretty conclusively kill off the idea of ICS-level firepower being the generally accepted standard of the EU.

Sure. If you use the same basis as used by Wong for the calculations on the Millennium Falcon's shields, which supposedly tanked megatons of energy from photons that budged the ship like if it were hit by an explosion in the high megajoule range.
Actually, with that logic, since an explosion in the gigatonne range would be around 4.2 e18 J at least, that would be a blast like a trillion times superior to what hit the MF.
So, by scaling the photons' energy with that same factor of OoMs, a HTL could fire bolts in the e12 megaton range and more.
In other words, no need for a Death Star.

swst, you keep throwing out book titles all over the board. just out of curiosity, as someone who has read everything you're tossing about, have you?

They'll just say it proves that those wonderful planetary shields can absorb more ROTFLMAO
