Just something fun I found, but I think it is rather illuminating:
Why Starfleet ships often have technical issues

This never, ever gets old.
Gotta say, too, that Discovery does capture this part of Trek pretty well. By the end of S1 they tied the warp drive and spore drive together in a pinch to hop universes.
Hell, Discovery may actually be based on this.

Part has simple do with fact run very advance piece of equipment and every case but, maybe USS Enterprise from TOS they were all pro-types.
Now of course exploding computer panel we real do not know enough tech or what realistic could done to make safer taking side over confident TNG era Federation. Which leads question more why did Tovok not argue with Tom about safety of user when not using touch screens every little bottom if expounding panel because piece fly at you.

Yup. Kira also comments on it. If you compare Cardassian rifle to Federation rifle... Cardassian rifle is definitely a better weapon: it is sturdy, reliable, does not require a degree in engineering to operate. But Federation phaser is a bloody Swiss knife of an energy weapon: it can heat your coffee, kill your enemy, or blow up an entire building in several very different ways (at least two - wide beam and overload). It is a survival tool much more than a weapon, but it is also a very good weapon... if you can manage to not confuse the buttons and settings.
