James vs Riddick, round 2...
Chapter 50
Cue “And Justice for All” from the Metallica album And justice For All
The Akira-class ship was flying fast, heading straight for the planet it had detected, located at two Light-Years from Helion Prime.
The crew knew the trip would take at least four hours, since they could not push the engines at their maximum and make repairs at the same time.
Minutes into the trip, Teramak’s communicator chirped.
“Commander,” A tense voice said, “The prisoner has once more escaped.”
The Cmdr tensed and gritted his teeth, and he activated the Intruder Alert systems.
Klaxons began blaring, indicating to the crew there was an unauthorized person, or persons, roaming free on the ship.
The highly trained crew of the Musashi knew well what that meant.
Avoid contact at all costs, and alert Security as soon as the intruder or intruders were located.
Captain Kirkinger’s communicator chirped, and a powerful, determined voice was heard.
“Captain, please leave him to me.
He will not escape a third time.” James said.
“He’s yours!” The Captain replied immediately.
He opened shipboard communications.
“Security, this is the Captain.
If you spot the intruder, initiate containment, but do not apprehend.
I repeat: do NOT apprehend.
Major Reynolds will take care of it.” He finished with a satisfied grin.
It was time this Riddick knew how the Musashi dealt with attacks against her crew.
He had shown the man nothing but kindness after repeated attacks on his crew, but unlike James, who had become a valued member of the Musashi family, this man kept acting like an animal, kept attacking his crew members, hurting them.
The Captain secretly hoped it would be a painful lesson.
**************************************************************
Riddick smiled.
The crew of the Musashi was acting exactly has he had planned.
He was going to meet with the Major again, and soon would have his answers.
But not here.
Not in a narrow, confined corridor.
Riddick could fight as well as anyone in confined spaces, but against the Major, he wanted to have as much space as necessary in order to move around and use the environment against his exceptional foe.
And he knew exactly where he needed to go.
He just had to make sure they could follow him.
**************************************************************************
This is too easy, James thought as he was arriving to the evacuated Shuttle Bay 2.
We shouldn’t have been able to follow him so precisely with the abilities he has.
James knew this was a trap, and he was pretty certain he was the intended victim, as Riddick had certainly heard the Captain’s orders to the crew.
This made him nervous, for he knew how silent Riddick could be, and while James held the advantage in an open confrontation, he knew the advantage became Riddick’s when one came on the terrain of his choosing.
But he was James Reynolds, vanquisher of Elites, killer of Trolls, decimator of acid spewing Aliens, and he never backed out of any fight.
And so he would go in and would confront Riddick, and he would prevail.
He had to.
He arrived at the Shuttle Bay and was informed that no one had gone in, as ordered, and that Tricorders confirmed Riddick was there, and that he hadn’t moved in more than twenty minutes.
“We can go in with you, Sir.” Hicks said, coming at his back.
James tunred around, and saw his entire MACO team there, ready for action, and it helped to calm his apprehension a bit.
“Thanks, but we don’t know what he’s set up in there, and if it’s a bomb, there’s no way I’m letting him take out the entire MACOs at once.
If he gets me, you’ll be Teramak’s number one hit team, and he’ll need you.” James explained soberly.
“Now move back a bit.”
They nodded, and saluted him.
He saluted in return, gathered his resolve, and entered.
Coming in, he scanned the Shuttle Bay, not seeing anything out of the ordinary, any possible traps.
As soon as the doors closed behind him, he heard a small explosion from afar, and the Shuttle Bay fell in total darkness.
He turned around to try the doors, but saw they were as dead as everything else.
A voice was heard from some distance behind him.
“You’re not afraid of the dark, are you?” Riddick asked, in an amused voice.
James didn’t answer, and simply switched his vision to Thermographic, since the absolute Darkness in the room prevented his Low-Light vision to amplify anything.
Still, with all the equipment that had been on a few moments ago, James had a very good thermal image, and could navigate within the room as easily as he could have had in full light.
He advanced cautiously, constantly looking around every shuttle, every packing crate, making sure he didn’t pass by a cleverly concealed hiding place Riddick could use to ambush him from.
Then, he heard a sound, a rustle of fabric, so faint it could almost pass as a normal background sound, but James knew without a doubt that the sound was manmade, and only one other person was in the Shuttle Bay with him.
He slowly and cautiously veered towards the origin of the sound, and advanced between two shuttles, making sure he was alert to any movement above him, knowing there was no hiding space under them and the only attack angle was from high up, or the front and back, all angles he was watching thoroughly.
Which led to his first mistake.
As he was advancing, Riddick appeared in front of him, coming in from around the back of a shuttle.
Seeing him, James advanced rapidly, quick stepping towards the dangerous man.
Which is why, when his left foot became tangled in a metallic wire that had been set between the two parked shuttles, he would not move his right foot out of the way, and it became entangled as well, tripping him and throwing him face first to the floor.
But he didn’t land face first, of course.
His enhanced reflexes allowed him to turn the fall in a roll, but as he got up to his feet after the roll, he saw that Riddick was no longer in front of him.
A change in air pressure around his neck told him what was coming, and so he sneaked his left hand up to his neck just as the garrotte was tightening and a knee was pressed against his back.
The wire dug into his hand, and as his blood started flowing down his arm, he felt a hot breath against the nape of his neck.
Riddick tightened the garrotte even more.
James knew, even with his reinforced bones, that with his strength, Riddick would saw through and kill him if he tried to struggle.
So he simply pushed with his left hand, accepting the fact it would be unusable for the rest of the fight, and he drew his knife with his right hand, intent on injuring Riddick and saving his own life.
**********************************************************************
Riddick heard the sound of the knife being unsheathed, and so, knowing the speed of the man he was facing, he let go of the garrotte, just in time.
The Major had unsheathed a large combat blade from his right thigh and in the same motion, had reversed his grip and had trust the knife up at his back.
Had Riddick not anticipated the move, his left thigh would have been opened up and the femoral artery most likely severed.
As it was, he evaded any damage simply because his position had given him all the advantage.
As the blow came, Riddick threw his left leg out back and his body into a spin to his left.
He completed the spin, finding himself at the Major’s back again, by swiping his combat knife down at the Major’s right arm, where it connected, if only barely.
His cut, while perfect, a cut that would have dug deeply in anybody else’s arm, wasn’t as deep as he wanted simply because the Major had sensed it coming and had thrown his upper body forward, taking his vulnerable arm away from Riddick’s knife.
Still, the cut was deep enough that it caused the Major to lose his knife, and so when the big MACO commander pivoted after a few steps, he was facing an armed Riddick without any weapons of his own, while bleeding profusely from two wounds.
Most people would believe the fight over, but Riddick knew who he was facing, how good he was, and so he didn’t move in right away.
He slowly advanced towards the Major, took a few swipes to test the man’s defences, all of which were blocked, and then attacked.
A horizontal sweep of the knife, right to left, was evaded, but he pushed in and reversed the swipe, this time coming in lower and punching out with his left hand at the same time.
The Major pushed his butt out, tucking in his abdomen which barely evaded the blade, his right hand pushing behind Riddick’s to ensure he couldn’t reverse the attack, while the Major’s left hand came up and under Riddick’s and to his left to deflect the blow outward.
Just as the block was over, the Major threw in low spinning right kick at the inside of Riddick’s right thigh, a blow so powerful Riddick felt his leg going numb.
He used the kick’s momentum to pivot on his left foot and bring his knife hand, his right, in a low slash against the Major’s leg.
The blade dug through the Major’s thigh, though only superficially, for the man had already begun his own pivot after Riddick’s own, culminating in a left backhand at the killer’s face, barely blocked by his own left arm.
The blow had shaken Riddick, but a quick back step had allowed him to completely evade the following uppercut which would have taken his head off.
Both opponents examined each other.
Riddick had been stunned by the punch, and his right leg was almost completely numb, but he could see his opponent was in even worse condition than he was, bleeding freely from three wounds that could eventually prove fatal, with two arms that could not hold a weapon, and a right leg that could no longer move him as he was used to.
They both knew the fight was over, and Riddick had won.
“I want you to remember this moment.” He told James with a large grin.
Then he dropped his knife which clattered on the floor, and kneeled putting his hands on his head, just as power was restored in the Shuttle Bay and the MACOs poured in, unwilling to wait any longer, to put restraints on the dangerous killer.

Interlude II preview...
The man sat down at the table, its mahogany surface perfectly polished, reflecting everything in the room in the man's eyes as if he was looking at a mirror.
He knew each and every reflected object, of course, as he spent an incredible amount of time in this very room every single day.
He got up and went to a small alcove in the wall.
It was situated three feet from the floor, approximately two ffet wide and a foot and a half deep.
A panel with command buttons was located at its right, but it was seldom used.
"Tea, Earl Grey!" The man said with a rich, commanding voice.
A shimmering field of energy came to life within the alcove, and when it receded, there stood a cup of hot tea.
The man took the cup, and went back to his desk, reluctant to get back to work.
But he knew it was his job to read all the reports that awaited him, to allocate ressources, to make important decisions others counted on, no matter how trivial or dreary it seemed to him.
The last four weeks had been very, very calm.
He was glad for that, of course, as the Borg's latest incursion in force had all but decimated the Alpha Quadrant, and all its major powers had felt the blow immensily.
It was a healing time for most of them, and it was a welcomed respite, but sometimes, just sometimes, the man wished for a little bit of action to come by his way.
"Be careful what you wish for." A voice said out of nowhere.
In a flash of light, his Ready Room was gone, replaced by a strange room with no discernable walls, bathed in an eerie bluish light.
In its center, a round table, two meters wide, with four seats, only one of which was already occupied.
"Hello!" Said the chair's oocupant.
"My name is Vire'Tess, and I believe we're here to talk."
A Vorta, very old and very cunning, if the man remembered Starfleet's briefings well.
"Good evening, Vire'Tess, I am Jean-Luc Picard, of the Starship..."
"Enterprise, yes, I've heard so much about you, my good Captain." The Vorta said, his voice warm and gentle.
"You have quite a reputation you know."
"Well then," Jean-Luc replied, "You have me at a disadvantage, for I know nothing of you."
"That is about to change." The old Vorta said.

Picard versus Vire'Tess in a battle of ideas, an arena of rethoric, a war of words. This should be good.

Well, if you would give a complete description of your shadowy figure seen in the Viper's computer room by PM, I would be able to add him to the conversation...
I believe he would fit in due to what I perceive to be an exixtence full of grey shadows, and no black or white absolutes...

I would of course be honored if you used Jack Parvus, through I fear he lacks the intellectial heft of the others, what parameters do you require? Merely physical descriptors, background or character mannerisms?Praeothmin wrote:Well, if you would give a complete description of your shadowy figure seen in the Viper's computer room by PM, I would be able to add him to the conversation...

I have missed a lot the necromonger battles were awesome..The Lord Marshal knows now what a wild card is and how dangerous.
Vi'retess vs picard? oh hell yes!! This is an encounter that will be fascinating these two characters certainly be bad ass without having to raise a phaser..mere words alone are sufficient weapons! Although I like how the old vorta is turning on the charm and the nice grandfatherly tone and Picards got that iron conviction
and if the shadow man comes..oh loord
who would be the fourth guest?

And James has met his match in Riddick, don't you think? :)Admiral Breetai wrote:I have missed a lot the necromonger battles were awesome..The Lord Marshal knows now what a wild card is and how dangerous.
Yeah, it was something running through my head, but this one will not manifest for a while, as I have Riddick's world to take care of first, and heve dreamt of new ideas for the story also...Vi'retess vs picard? oh hell yes!! Don't know if there would be one, I would have liked to use one of Khas's characters, but HE DOESN'T WRITE ENOUGH MATERIAL FOR ME TO FIND THE CHARACTER I WOULD NEED...and if the shadow man comes..oh loord
who would be the fourth guest?
Got it, Khas?
WRITE MORE!

If you want to use one of my characters, you'll probably have to use Julius Hathaway from "From One World To Another", since - with the exception of Greenfield - none of the major characters from FPE are mine.

Re: "The long Journey" (a Shadowrun crossover with everythi
James finally met his match oh yeah!! what a rivalry
