and the force apparently has a satanic tentacle monster figure..in its mythology now- why people insist the EU is canon after seeing something that retarded is beyond me
Seriously? .....That is so stupid it makes my brain hurt. I think I just lost a couple of IQ points reading that.
Personally, I think they should just let each EU story arc exist in its own continuity, so we don't have to worry about garbage like this polluting it (a little late for that!). That way readers wouldn't have to deal with BS like Luke having a new girlfriend every other book. Ugh.
I can only imagine how many Mary Sue Skywalkers there are out theres....
At any rate, I don't see how a violent confrontation like StarWarsStarTrek proposed could possibly come about. Both Picard and Luke are good people at heart and a diplomatic solution would be the most probable outcome by far.
Frodo was good at heart too. Remember that Luke is in constant conflict with the Dark Side; and he has abnormally high power, which presents an abnormal temptation to use it for evil; and eventually, sooner or later, that dark power would consume him.
If it was a violent situation (say, mirror-universe picard or something similar), Luke would likely have to use copious amounts of mind tricks and telekenesis to get the data. I could see him stowing away on board a shuttle ala obiwan in ep III to get to the enterprise and mindtricking some poor sap in the docking bay (or the shuttle pilot himself) into walking onto the bridge and grabbing the data for him and returning it to luke in the shuttle bay. If luke goes in swinging though, he is likely going to get trapped in a forcefield or shot with a wide-dispersal phaser shot, and of course, even the success of the stealthy approach hinges on the enterprise not noticing that the shuttle is bringing an extra human back with it or its sensors not picking up the force that surrounds luke.
I'd think that Enteprise security-systems would be better than that, i.e. it would detect him anywhere on the ship, and would alert security, who would alert the captain; then they'd just watch him.
But seriously, that's a pretty far stretch for the Jedi Mind-trick; if he could do that, whhy not just wait in any port-of-call, and send the newb-ensign to bring it to him?\
We've never seen the mind-tricks work outside the Jedi's immediate presence, so once he started accessing classified data then the rest of the crew would know something was up.
Also, there's a question of whether any starfleet personnel have weak minds; in "Space Seed," for example, Khan was only able to influence one person onboard, and she was already a groupie of his. as wall as a historian who lived in the past, adhering to the old ways of conformity and violence And Khan was one of the greatest leaders of all time,, so much that Kirk wouldn't even let him see anyone on the ship for fear of joining his ranks.
So it's unlikely that the Jedi could do it either, since Starfleet would presumably test their personnel rigorously against alien-influence.
