So assuming a 2 meter high window,

That's a problem right there, from the inside, the Bridge window didn't seem like 2 meters (6'6") tall, it was smaller then the crewmembers standing next to it, wasn't going all the way down and didn't seem to end much higher then Kirk, if I remember correctly.
So, I would perhaps put it at 1.5 meters, which would put the E-Alt at 600 something meters, which is still a far cry from the 300 meters mark, or even my 400 meters estimate...
But we are being generous here, so it could well be between 400 and 600 meters...

Personally, I don't think TMP was so bad.

I even liked it, and still think it was better then ST V or ST:Ins, and on par with ST:Gen...

ICG magazine has a view of Kirk and Spock directly in front of the helm/naviagation station looking at the window/screen showing the Narada slowly imploding as it is consumed by the black hole created by the released red matter. Given the screencap l33telboi provided, the pair are not standing very close at all to the screen, and even still the screen measures a good 6.5 heads tall or roughly 1.28 meters tall. So 2 meters is a fairly reasonable estimate.

Personally, I don't think TMP was so bad.

ST:TMP became much better after the Director's Special Edition with the editing to slightly trim some of the scenes for better pacing, and the finishing up of the special effects. Even still, before the SE version, TMP has a grand, epic quailty that is unmatched by even TWoK.

Oh, I got a copy of the International Cinematographers Guild magazine with it's article on the Star Trek movie. On page 36, there is a great shot of the E-Alt leaving the station, giving a superb front profile of the ship, and at high resolution quality. The E-Alt measures 1.65", and the bridge HUD window measures 0.02" of an inch. Dividing 1.65 by .02 = 82.5 to 1. So assuming a 2 meter high window, that would make the E-Alt 165 meters tall. From the few side views I can gleen off the net and the movie stills, I'am guessing that the E-Alt has a 5 to 1 ratio of length to height, which means the it measures in at... 825 meters long!

I wasn't paying much attention to the window sizes in the scenes where they were seen... :)

Ok, searching for images, I've found this one which basically seems to agree with all the 600-700 meters size:

That's about right given the distance between the helm/navigation station and the HUD window itself. In fact, the E-Alt has the biggest single main bridge ever seen on a Federation starship AFAIK.

My mistake, but either way, the Batillus class supertanker (there we go with links inside words agian :p) manages over half a million tons at its heaviest possible weight (oil and all) and is actually shorter than Knock Nevis.

Yes, they have an impressive DWT, but their gross tonnage is still "only" 275,276.
