"Freedom" dropped from WTC
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the World Trade Center site, has dropped the name "Freedom Tower" from the site's tallest building, opting instead to call it simply "One World Trade Center."
The decision has drawn criticism from former governor George Pataki, who initially coined the appelation, and mayor Michael Bloomberg. In addition, Brooklyn senator Marty Golden is submitting legistaltion to Albany to make the name "Freedom Tower" permanent.
The only tenant signed so far to 1WTC is Vantone, a Chinese real estate corporation with ties to the Communist government. The PA denies any correlation with the name change.
At this point, I'm just anxious to see it built. But obviously, lots of people are invested in the idea of the new tower being the "Freedom Tower." I personally was more invested in it being the world's tallest, but Burj Dubai killed that idea right quick (along with about 10 other buildings). In the end, people will call it whatever they want to, though I'm happier with it just being the World Trade Center. "Freedom Tower" always sounded too political for me (and personally, I'm sick-and-goddamned tired of being treated to the idiotic strawman "you hate freedom" every time I disagree with a conservative). In summation, call it what you want PANYNJ, just be sure you get it built.

"Freedom Tower" was a pretty silly name IMO, the US went a little freedom happy after 9/11, naming things that had no connection to it "freedom". It always sounded like a superheros lair to me, like the Justice League or something.
I voted "who cares" simply because my preferred option, just renaming it "World Trade Center" wasn't there.

Both of whom are morons. (personal opinion as opposed to verifiable fact, mind you)Cocytus wrote: The decision has drawn criticism from former governor George Pataki, who initially coined the appelation, and mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Ugh, China. I wish they would just go away sometimes. The only tenant signed so far to 1WTC is Vantone, a Chinese real estate corporation with ties to the Communist government. The PA denies any correlation with the name change.
If you don't mind me saying, it was a side effect of the extreme jingoism that had swept our nation, the likes the world hadn't seen since at least WWII if not WWI.Feldercarb wrote:"Freedom Tower" was a pretty silly name IMO, the US went a little freedom happy after 9/11, naming things that had no connection to it "freedom". Jingoism =/= Freedom or Freedom-loving

Has Mr. O actually stated that he hopes for the destruction of the US or is this just more exaggeration on your part?PunkMaister wrote:

Well perhaps if conservatives want to be taken a little more seriously on the internet then they should cut down on the exaggeration (mental disorders lol) and the tendency to make ridiculous claims about their opposition.

We are? Funny I thought this thread was about the possible name of the building that is to replace the twin towers ah, yes it's a thread about the hated US my bad, go on...Feldercarb wrote:Of course what I said can't be applied to the other side right? Even though we are specifically talking about conservatives in this thread and therefore liberal behavior would be a tangent.PunkMaister wrote: And thus the pot call the kettle black...

We were, now we're talking about conservatives. But please continue to ignore the points addressed to you, it's far more entertaining.PunkMaister wrote:
