Prism, NSA, other untold sniffing tools, etc.
Some years ago, NSA was caught tapping the internet flux of an entire large city in the US.

Amusingly enough, the link to this website is sponsored on the Google search default page of Firefox (from the Mozilla Foundation, which gets a substantial amount of money from Google).
Yet Google's Schmidt has made no secret about how he thinks anyone who wants to hide something is most likely doing or about to do something wrong against society.
