Wrong forum, again.
Besides, nothing new. The fact that we can still convince millions of people that a war is good, that we managed to get pundits like Bush and Obama elected, just tells you that the vast majority of people on this planet are dumb like socks and it's worthless. People don't even have the balls to organize anything remotely violent, and when they'll do, if they ever dare to move their lard, they'll be tagged as terrorists and meet the full force of their beloved democrashit. People rejoice over wars of pseudo freedom in Libya and really don't care about a war against Iran or attempted coups in all southern America for decades.
The few who do never get a chance to approach the spheres of power up there.
This has always been the way things worked.
Consider yourself lucky living in the Western world, in some relative peace, even if your money is literally robbed legally (...) day after day and if you national debt keeps ballooning as it's been doing for decades without anyone really twitching. It's either that or dying in droves in some place no one gives a damn about. Oh sure, everything's getting worse. Morals, education, solidarity is the shadow of itself. Violence and mediocrity are on the rise, it's all about who can be the most vulgar and obscene, and you get your sex and thinly veiled pedophilia here and there, 24/7. Your food tastes as shit, it's full of dangerous chemicals and you can't buy anything better. Heck, the stuff you buy is probably built as to fail soon enough so you have to buy more of it very soon, and the worst of it is that anything above, still of mediocre quality, you can only get it with credit and interest rates, and no one sees anything wrong with interest rates. It's so ingrained into people's minds and into what makes the Western world that it's fruitless to ever imagine going backwards.
But never mind. So is the price to pay for your liberty, a price gladly and silently paid generation after generation, in the US and the whole Western world, as this is how things went on and keep going on, no matter the stupid stop Vietnam or Occupy blah blah protests.
The best thing to do actually is moving far away from our current lives and settling in the middle of nowhere, places that may never see the remotest chance of being fouled by some foot soldier, if that is still possible. There, hope to get enough sun, water and fresh air, and grow your own food.
At least, in such wild lands, when you had a problem with someone, you could impale or shoot him without having a gazillion intrusive laws and lawyers waiting in the bushes to tell you how wrong that was.
Sad thing, I once thought that the United States was the concentration of the worst European traits, but I'm starting to see things differently, now that China is rising. It's more upfront in the way censorship is applied, but the end goal hardly is any different.
Oh, and what people call democracy is not democracy, even on paper. Electing one buffoon every once in a while to do things for you like your lackey is not democracy.
If you want democracy, you'll have to earn it. If you want to be free, you'll have to work for it.
"Arbeit macht frei" they usually say. You just can't beat it, you know.

Although, a recent study done showed that overall, humans have been getting less violent over history, especially since the end of World War II. It's just now that all this stuff is getting reported, and the fact that we have a higher population, that make it seem worse.

Let's just see that "study" and what they call violence. Violence doesn't stop at punching your neighbour in the face.

What? I'd like to see this study and what it's assumptions are based on.

seems obvious to me. desensitization to violence is not causing the catastrophic rise in violence that people have been predicting for the last 50 years. you know what desensitization to violence causes? a greater willingness to pull the trigger.. on an xbox 360 controller.

You cannot be desensitioselfnslfned to violence without exposing people, 24/4, to a form of violence. It's a saturation phenomenon, perhaps at homeopathic rates first.

And no, I'm not OK. But like any human I try to forget things that bother me. :)

it just seems like you're getting riled up over stuff we've all known about and hated for years and years. like the corporation thing, yes, it sure does suck that corporations rule the world and control the governments of most countries. it's fucking ridiculous, actually. but what can we do? i mean, if you have an idea, i'm all for giving it a shot.
i used to write long-ass diatribes on my blurty and whatnot, but eventually i just pretty much gave up even trying to keep track of what happens in politics because there is simply no way to change anything without resorting to some of that old ultraviolence.
right now we have all these people doing the 'occupy wall street' thing here, and at first i was sort of impressed that so many people came together to try and change something, but again they come to the same problem in the end - good job 'raising awareness', guys, but now what? it was utterly pointless.
then again, i admit completely that i have given up all hope of change.

and what i meant by desensitization to violence was desensitization to violence in the media. tv shows, video games, movies, the news, music, all totally saturated with violence. i guess that's a pretty important clarification. sorry. i just meant that even with the fact that we are exposed to all that crap, we don't actually get more violent outside of our interactions with media, videogames and such. if we did, basic training in the military wouldn't need to be 90% composed of attempting to break down a man's instinctual repulsion to killing another human being. i think this is pretty telling, considering that we have a voluntary military. people sign up with the full knowledge that their job basically consists of shooting at people with guns, so surely this is an idea they find appealing or at least tolerable, and then we spend weeks and weeks trying to convince them to do it. can you imagine if any other job was like that?
i was just agreeing with khas. i don't think we're becoming more violent.

Humans getting less violent does not mean they're less idiotic - maybe even opposite - it only means that capitalists have found less obvious ways to dominate masses than throught force.

Capitalists usually don't require force, they buy you out, and only use force as a last means. So-called Communists and some socialists, as well as various monarchies on the other hand, have used quite a bit of violence to force their agendas through.

capitalists don't really bother to buy you out anymore, mike. it's not necessary. they simply change the rules so that you lose. and they don't use force as a last resort, they don't use force at all. again, not necessary. no need to fight when you can just ignore people or throw them in jail. wrong and wrong, brutha!

wouldn't a true democracy actually be the worst possible government? it's bad enough that you don't have to pass an intelligence test to vote on who gets to make your decisions for you, having the ability to vote yourself anything you want would destroy the planet in a month. taxes would be voted right out of existence while at the same time at least 50% of the populace would vote itself out of having to work for a living, and good luck explaining why that's a bad thing to the 50% of america which is stupider than the average american. we're talking about a group of people who elected george w. bush president TWICE. a group of people who create things like the goddamn tea party and think sarah palin would make a good president. a group of people who ACTUALLY BELIEVE that clinton lying to us about getting a blowjob is worse than bush lying to us all over and over in order to go to war with a country that hadn't actually done anything to us. a group of people who, in 20fucking11, still believe in fairy tales and magic and are not ashamed of that fact. 90% of us citizens still believe that christianity is the one true way, when even swst was able to put up a pretty good fight against that concept. i would love to have some statistics on how many of those 90% have actually read the book. i'm guessing something like 5%, since less than 50% of those people even bother to go to church, when the bible specifically requires christians to do so.
the idea of a true democracy in america in which americans are allowed to actually decide things for themselves should be keeping us up at night, imo.
