Leaving aside other issues im not sure i like the idea of shit tonnes of small reactors dotting the country. The security for our current Nuclear power plants is to a very high level as they are rare large and serve many. However i feel that the required quality and level of security is unlikely to be met if we have one of these for every 20,000+ American-style homes ect ect.. Let alone the security needing to transport new and old cores back and forth.

If i was a terrorist i would dream about a nation powered by these.

My main concern is, their lifetime is about 8-10 years...

What do you do with them once their used up?
Leave them buried underground?
Can they be recycled?

You send them back and they'll make bullets and sabots out of them, so while you enjoy your new 9.1 home 3D theater, some other people in some place of the world no one gives a damn about will either die in droves of a long sweet death, or see their babies bear terrible defects.
Or, as you said, we bury the crap until we develop dustbin-fusion cores which will be able to pulverize that stuff.
