President Obama & Freedom, the continuing bad news!

First of all where are all the liberals that were screaming bloody murder with the Patriot Act? Where is the ACLU?

Obama passing new law to allow searching of-PCs, Laptops and media devices.

And last but not least!

I must admit that this is discouraging.

Took me a long time to find actual text articles discussing this, or at least, what I think is the same topic. ACTA has been in the works for some time, and the Obama administration took the unusual step (unusual after a couple years of near-complete silence about ACTA negotiations from the Bush administration) of releasing some information about it. Rep. Engel and Sen. Feingold appear to have been working on measures to restrict warrantless searches of laptops etc at US borders, which has been going on for quite some time. See here.

In other words, there's not much newsworthy about this in terms of search and seizure protections. Moreover, ACTA is a proposed treaty, not an actual law per se, not ratified yet. Perhaps that headline should be "Obama continues negotiations in same vein as Bush." Worth criticism, but like most things I've seen about the Obama administration worth criticizing, is the result of more or less continuing Bush era policies rather than radically departing from them.
County gov't has nothing to do with Obama.
