I have not done any physics calculations in a long time so I'd like someone to check the figures.

DESIGN NOTES
[*]large "wings" serve as heat radiators during normal operations

I am imagining the basic shape of the ship looks like this. I haven't added any of the weapons yet.

Similar problems, similar solutions. I wanted to have something that would a) defend against weapons fire from front while not completely ignoring attacks from other vectors, b) defend against space debris and such, c) allow surface for heat emissions and d) keep the overall shape still relatively simple. Plus, I have to admit that I actually like Star Destroyer design, especially Republic variant of it, so there might have been some subconscious influence as well although I was not (consciously) aiming for a Star Destroyer look. :-)
