I've always been a Kirk fan. I like his reckless cowboy command style.

It's a tough call, but Sisko is a tough, take no shit commander, who isn't afraid to make the difficult choices when the chips are down. Moreso because unlike all the other captains, he can't always up and fly away in his starship at the end of the episode, and leave the situation in someone else's hands.

I think Kirk's got the edge, not just because of his swagger, but also because of how militaristic Starfleet is during his era. They have an obliterate the planet general order: as opposed to not being able to put an attacking faction's civilians at risk even if it means getting destroyed and losing the convoy you are escorting, which is also carrying civilians (I hated that Worf on trial episode of DS9). Kirk also has ingenuity going for him and good chemistry with the other main characters. Picard has that whole diplomat thing going for him, but he does seem to be less bold than Kirk or Sisko. Sisko has a lame station that O'Brien is constantly struggling to keep operational, and a cool little warship. Sisko is the most human of them, after all, he is the only captain who raised a child. I don't really like Janeway or Archer that much. I guess I have to go with Kirk, if for no other reason, because he has the coolest middle name ever.

Picard. In my opinion he is the most well balanced commanding officer. All of them have virtues and defects in their command style but Picard it’s the one that comes better off. Sisko would be a close second.

Kirk had style, charm, and balls

Looking at all the other Captains in comparison to Kirk, I realized that Kirk had something that Picard, Sisko, and Janeway lacked. Catchphraeses better than 'make it so'. Also, he had many girlfriends spread to the corners of the galaxy, while Picard is old, Sisko wasn't a player, and Janeway is ugly. Well Archer... um, there's a bland personality, and then there's Archer. Archer isn't vanilla, he's no added flavor.
Kirk had balls. Balls that roamed the galaxy and kicked mysterious forces' into oblivion. And no one else can claim that.
