OK, I was wondering what kind of versus we could come with right now, and the answer was... don't bother, even if you think you have found a good idea, it will fail.

So instead, I'll ask what you think are the best planets in Star Trek to use as environments for Podracing.

GO!

What about that one that had that energy species that 'cloned' in sickbay? The one the scientists were gonna kill, if they terraformed the planet. That one that was a part of the T'Kon empire might be good. Thunderstorms and gutted rock faces.

The planet that the Guardian of Forever was found on. That had some nifty looking terrain to fly around on what with all the craggy-looking rocks and broken ruins stretching off to the horizon, not to mention the Guardian itself.

The twisted landscape of Vulcan's Forge is also another canidate for racing pods through with it's numerous canyons, hills, cliffs, static-electric sandstorms and other hazards.

Andoria is another planet in the Federation that has a really interesting landscape; lots of icy chasms and caves and such.

Oh, if you want to have a Coruscant-like Trek city to race your pods through, try lovely and scenic Farius Prime!

Unfortunately, perhaps no truer words in regards to the verses debate as a whole have ever been spoken.

What about good old Earth? The Grand Canyon would probably be fun, or if nothing else just find ourselves a good stretch of pavement and hold our own 24 Hours of LeMans Podracing.

While it's not a planet, the Rura Penthe penal asteroid is a good choice.

The cloud city would surely fit for a devastatingly tortured mini-Monaco full of loops and crossing tunnels, with a bit of arrangement. And if you go off tracks, you fall like in F-Zero.

Why not race in a real canyon... the Valles Marineris on Mars.

4000 km of tracks, that's a trek. Now, of course, with podracers capable of 900 km/h top, and at least 500-600 km/h, you're looking at an enduro race of a maximum of eight hours.

I'd pay to see that! :D

How do you come to these values?

As I have seen TPM, I hadn't the impression, that the podracers were that fast.

And as a place for a race: I propose the Valley of Chula on Romulus.

Mostly from video games. 900 kph I think was the highest modification. That said, it was a game. The complete Boonta Eve Classic was, I think, one of the final tracks, which should be played with a fully upgraded podracer.

800 kph is 222.22 m/s, or 8.88 m/f (25 fps).
900 kph is 250 m/s, 10 m/f.

I observed some speeds. In the Whip, a serpentine narrow and tall canyon just after the Dune Sea, Anakin's podracer was covering 4.1 m per frame, 102.5 m/s, or 369 kph.
In the arena, Sebulba's Plug-F Mammoth would cover one engine length per frame. For 7.47 m/f, which is 186.75 m/s, 672.3 kph. That's in the arena.

I also made a picture from the speed run on Hutt Flats, and got a speed that is above 1100 kph.
