Another alternative explanation is that the Falcon did not have a backup, and in fact did either a months long journey, or it was already near enough to Bespin by hitching a ride though hyperspace on the unknowing ISD Avenger from the Hoth system to the Anoat system. Anoat merely being the star system which contains the gas giant planet Bespin, and the Falcon merely limped her way across it.

It could not have hitched a ride, since standard Imperial procedure is to dump trash before going to Hyperspace...Mike D wrote:it was already near enough to Bespin by hitching a ride though hyperspace on the unknowing ISD Avenger from the Hoth system to the Anoat system.
Perhaps it takes even more time to do the calculations using the slower drive, since they have to recalculate the drift charts of celestial bodies, or something...The Elder Dwoof wrote:The question becomes, when he discovered the main hyperdrive was out, why didn't Han fire up the backup immediately to get them out of the battle zone, instead of ducking into the asteroids?

Not necessarily since that may be standard Imperial procedure during fleet dispersal operations as we saw in the movie.Praeothmin wrote: It could not have hitched a ride, since standard Imperial procedure is to dump trash before going to Hyperspace...
