Thread Necro

There's a concept in the world wherein one should not "necro" a thread . . . i.e. talk about the same thing in an existing thread.

Why is that? I mean, I suppose it makes some sense insofar as increasing apparent forum activity, but on a board about specific topics why have several threads covering the same territory?

To be sure, some threads could be too vast in scope for that to work properly, but if there was a specific thread about a warp speed as seen in a particular episode, it doesn't seem fitting to have three threads on it over three years.

Just pondering out loud, pay no mind.

Yeah, I don't see this as a problem as long as the necro brings something new to the table, but on boards where a lot of posts are created each day, it may be counter productive...
Sometimes, two similar threads deal with the same subject in different manners, or talk about different aspects of the same object...
At that time, I believe it is best to have these different threads instead of mixing up the discussions in one thread where people discussing both will have a hard time following posts...

I agree with Praeo. The necroed thread has to bring something new to the discussion. However in the case of threads that have lapsed more than 4 years as was the case with the necroed GE-Rebellion logistics thread, then perhaps a new thread should have been made to update information as the participants are either moved on or have forgotten what was written and have to spend time getting reacquainted with everything.
