Automatic login
Hi;
my account won't login automatically, and yes I have cookies enabled.
What can I do please?

Re: Automatic login
I suggest practicing your login so much you can do it with your eyes closed.
It's what I did... :)

Why would anyone want to be logged in automatically?

Indeed, why?Lucky wrote:Why would anyone want to be logged in automatically?
It's not like every board does it. :p
No, really. It's a part that's broken, and it seems to come in different flavours depending on the user. I know I cleaned some cookies and other things, but that's not changed anything.
There seems to be some solutions, but I'm sure that anything I have unveiled by a few clicks through Google, JMS already knows all too well.
Examples: 1, 2.
There just are times when systems doesn't are to won't not being friendly.
It's like the whole "&sid..." thing that's glued to any link.

Re: Automatic login
Well, it might be fixed for you now, but I give no guarantees. Autologin on phpBB seems to be one of those things that just doesn't work very well.

Well clearly it's a bug you can easily work around.Mike DiCenso wrote:It's no big deal to me, really.

Re: Automatic login
Hey, I don't know what kind of miracle you have achieved there, JMS, but thus far no more problem. Autologin and &sid are gone.
What was it? (assuming you're not revealing some crucial security thing here)

Re: Automatic login
Fixed the cookie domain settings. I remember that the old cookie settings had to be fiddled with a few times to work and eventually did, so either my host changed something or one of the updates changed something. This was a simple problem, I just wasn't aware of it.

Re: Automatic login
I thought I'd seen someone else mention this months ago and that it required a per-user fix from JMS, e.g. messaging him to request it. I just never felt like bugging our gracious host about it.
Thanks Padathrawn!

Re: Automatic login
Yeah, I just noticed the improvement myself. My auto-log in only stayed if I remained on the site or left for maybe a minute or two with the same tab. Anything beyond that and it logged me out. Thanks!
