Why why there's no illumination in frame 2? I... I don't get it. Maybe in this particular case such illumination appear only when torpedo is very close to the hull?
It's also an advantage, really.
Sure, but it's not like that poor asteroid was firing back or anything, so there was no need for complex maneuvers :)
It's even worse, since as I understand it, they were trying to intercept it, so they were likely facing it, or chasing it.
That was my understanding as well.

It's the same, really - class 8 probe uses photon torpedo casing.

Not exactly. Normally I'd take my own screenshots to show ya, but I can't do that until I return home. Fortunately TrekCore has an extensive selection of pictures from episodes and movies. Here's K'Ehleyrs class 8 probe:

Here's a pic of a photon torpedo case from TNG's In Theory:

Here's a photon torpedo case from DS9's The Sound of her Voice:

Here's a photon torpedo case from DS9's Tears of the Prophets:

As you can see, those torpedos are all quite similar in shape and size, and are visually different from the class 8 probe. For one thing the probe is thicker then the torpedos.

Well I stand corrected... Kinda. It is, after all, the same physical prop, only made fatter and modified with extra greeblies and stuff. The length is to be the same, anyway, so for the purpose of scaling there's no difference :)

Only if we can actually scale them to be the same size, which wouldn't matter anyways since we'd already have the size of the photon torpedo casing to use in the scaling.

From an in-universe perspective we can't just assume they're the same size, especially since there's already one obvious difference in the dimensions. We'd need to calc it.

But at least, all the angles are at 90°. That's what mattered as far as I was concerned. Since one of tile's the sides, the most distant one, is almost horizontal in the picture, we then know that the adjacent and perpendicular sides are pointing towards the point source of the perspective.
Also, K'Ehleyr was travelling aboard a class 8 probe, not a photon torpedo casing.
Ok.

I don't know how to take that data and work out how much closer to the camera Neelix is than the window though, and then use that to work out a more accurate size for the window.

If you wanna take a stab at it, go for it...

I may give it a try, but only if I have clean screencaps of the interior and exterior. (hear hear ;) )

I'll be providing all of that when I re-do the analysis.

Hehe.

Well, according to the dialing down evidence, it seems that the warhead is armed at the very last minute, right? Or was it already filled with antimatter?

If yes, I don't think it would make much of a difference where it exploded on the ship, unless we're only talking about a couple of particles. :)

Even still, a photon torpedo casing still has enough volume inside it to contain the body of an adult humanoid male or female (read: Spock, Lisa Cusak, or Jadzia) easily, which means with some modifications a torpedo can potentially still contain a fairly large amount of matter and antimatter reactants in it, should the need arise. This also brackets the minimum possible length, width, and height of the average torpedo casing.

Me too, but then I became dead serious. Because we can't afford ourselves too much laughter.
It would make us look weak and filthy.
