And holy shit, has SDN's traffic dwindled. According to our own database SDN's Alexa Placing went from 96,706 in September 2011, to 266,552 in May 2012. As of today, August 28, 2013, their placing is 600,336. The trend of decreasing traffic shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, it seems to be accelerating.

Is it a general ranking or is it topic centric, somehow?
It could just be that with the internet booming and mainstream websites generating a maximum of noisy visits and clicks on page, most older websites with no intent to blow their rates will go down the ladder, just by a rule of relativity.

I noticed traffic is slowing pretty much everywhere I go:
SBC, SFJ, ASVS, DITL, FBI, CIA, DEA, halleluia!

I just noticed that ever since Wong left, SDN's traffic has slowed down tremendously.

Also, according to Alexa, traffic at ASVS has increased over the past few months.

Given that SDN was very much a cult of personality surrounding Wong as site owner, it's not surprising that Wong leaving sent SDN into decline. There was also something of a "cohort" of fairly exclusive insiders, and that cohort is growing up, losing interest, etc.

The main website itself always helped draw in traffic to SDN, but that website has become seriously dated, both in style and in content. Same may be true for us, too, but I think SDN's vision of what Star Wars is really like has been repeatedly contradicted by new material.

The way the Saxtonite crowd made a bunch of insider enemies with the Talifan drama probably did not help, either.

That's the reason I highlighted the decline in the Database SDN article, and tied it into Wong's curious disappearance in about June of 2010. Granted it's speculation, but it is a reasonable correlation to make, especially giventhe information we got about one of the secret SDN attack groups falling into stagnation following Wong's departure.

Wong's absence being the guiding and organizational force behind the other secret SDN attack efforts neatly explains the sudden drop off at SBC and other forums of the rabid warsie defenders of the faith. Oh sure you still have Leo1 and others like him there, but they don't do anything except parrot the same unoriginal crap over and over. They can't come up with anything new on their own. There's no one there anymore to provide even flimsy evidence and pseudo-scientific justifications for Star Wars superiority. The warsies can't use much of the new material, the like the The Clone Wars movie or it's TV series because it doesn't fit with what they want to hear. I suspect the upcoming Rebels cartoon series will also be a big disappointment to them as well. And so they will constantly fall back on increasingly outdated and irrelevant webpages and the ICS.

Also, I would imagine that the constant "groupthink" forcing of SDN forum members to tow the party line in the Versus debates section hasn't helped anything either. Star Trek versus Star Wars debate settled because of AoTC: ICS and no new information can be brought to the table at all or you get ridiculed and banned? Well, there goes that segment of the SDN site traffic. All that's left is momentum that is slowly petering out with people moving on to other things or staying out of nostalgia or hanging out and talking the in the non-Trek/Wars forums there. And I would say that's probably what's kept SDN alive is that it diversified enough early on, otherwise SDN would probably be much lower in site traffic than it is.

Had Wong still been over there and the debate still live and heated, now that Lucas is out of the loop save for some distant consultant fatjob, would they have cared to push for another run at getting their views endowed with official imprimatur, somehow, without being able to count on Saxton? They managed to gather a lot of bad publicity against them over the years. They seem pretty much burnt now.
