Another Horrible thread at SDN

2 Points:
1: there are no ST debaters there, just SW debaters - all helping to pick down one poor guy at deviant art
2. Same faul arguments:
Ships at coruscant shooting at 1/10000 of their power, "200 GT would vapourise a small town just fine", ICS says 10 LH so be it.

The pro-wars rabids at SDN are a very good example of the weak kneed version of authoritarianism. Their board requires an entrance fee, while this one doesn't. What is that there, dozen people fueling one side of the bloke's debate. You don't see us dog piling in secret.

Entrance fee? Are you referring to the required paypal donation for those who don't have a non-free email address? If so, it should be noted that if I recall correctly that was put in place to deter mass email sign ups and board invasions.

It doubles as an entrance fee to post. They're fully aware there are plenty of opportunities to debate people outside of that forum, but most of them these days stick to the board with the fee, where they are already members.

"Registration is free, provided you are not using a free webmail provider (we have had problems with people using Hotmail etc. in the past). So we now ask for a $10 donation (top right corner) from people using Hotmail, Yahoo mail, etc. If you have a regular ISP mail account, none of this applies to you and we will try to activate your account as soon as possible."

I just checked; it's on page 2 after hitting the register link. You might have been using an accepted program.

Well, it's not one of the more popular Free email providers, but it is a free one non-the-less.

Clearly the admin doesn't go looking up each e-mail address to see if it's free. There are probably just a handful of "recognized" free e-mail providers that he looks for - Hotmail, Yahoo!, and perhaps Gmail.

It really is just there to stop a massive amount of people trying to sign up at once, or from people trying to sign up on a bunch of different accounts. The other thing is that often the admins will wait a while before approving the activation of accounts.

Holy jesus. That SOB. I wondered why he was taking so long to reply...

For those of you who want to know, I'm the dragoon1940 fellow they're talking about. I guess I should be flattered that he felt he needed backup...

The one thing I'll say for a registration fee, it should stop spammers cool.

On one hand I'm sorry your post is being disescted and "debated" by SDN.

On the other hand (jugding from a quick sample of the replies) even useing thier collectiveness the best they could do say the ICS is right regardless of what the movies show, which kinda makes it comical.

So you have my sympathy and my congratulations.

I'm not even going to bother reading the SDN thread. It'd just make me angry and upset. Instead, I'll shoot down the guy I'm debating as he brings things up.

If he copies and pastes all of their claims at you, here's a couple of cents on one of their more amusing ones:

But that's all I'll say for now, since if we start behaving like them it'll end up being a proxy, "private little" war.

It's pretty lame. The thread seems to consist mostly of bashing on St-vs-sw.net as well as the rehashing of the ICS arguement.

Personally, I take neither side in this debate, as I enjoy both shows and just have fun imagining a Star Destroyer fighting the Enterprise.
