Here's the scene that establishes Luke and Biggs as friends on Tatooine, and gives some insight to the audiance as to what is happening in the galaxy as a whole:

A few interesting things: Luke's macrobinoculars are unable to make out the ISD and
Tantive clearly enough for Biggs, Fixers and Camie to recognize them... Unless there are wedge-shaped tankers out there that look an awful lot like Star Destroyers.
The Academy and the Imperial Starfleet appear to be completely seperate organizations. Serving in the Imperial navy is not automatic if you apply and attend the Academy, which is contrary to some of the EU depictions.
Also reference by Biggs to Tatoonie lacking orbital space stations for the servicing of starships. Oddly we see in the PT no space stations in orbit around the highly developed Courscant, and large starships are shown lifting off from specialized slips on the planet's surface.

Why should all that be odd? It was cut, and as such, has no validity.
That Camie girl is a hottie, and she should have been named Leia. The trouble seems that actress doesn't seem to act very well.

Chee did say once that deleted scenes were G-canon unless they contained something that directly contradicted something that was actually in the movie. I'm not sure if this would actually count as a deleted scene though.

Did he meant all deleted scenes, or just those which came back in super duper editions?
This video presented here, and several other cuts, were already present on the Behind the Magic CD.

Good question. I believe the context of the question/answer involved all those deleted scenes they stuck in the prequal dvds, so I don't think it had anything to do with whether the scene made it back into the actual movie or not at any point.

The novelization contains the Luke/Biggs scene, though it adds in more detail and information, and so from a canon standpoint, it's still generally pretty vaild.

The girl who plays Camie is none other than Koo Stark, an actress better known for her "soft-core porn" movies, such as "Emily", and her relationship with Britain's Prince Andrew (prior to his marriage to Sarah, Duchess of York).
