I might not mind a crimson blade, a really deep, dark red. Or a midnight blue. I think that the blade effects use to light of hues. Darken them up a bit and all who looked at them would have an instant visual orgasm.

They're not. George Lucas even made a point of it in TPM with this exchange between Qui-Gon Jin and Anakin:

ANAKIN : I...I was wondering...something...
QUI-GON : What?
ANAKIN : Well, ahhh...you're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?
QUI-GON : What makes you think that?
ANAKIN : I saw your laser sword. Only Jedi carry that kind of weapon.
QUI-GON : Perhaps I killed a Jedi and stole it from him.
ANAKIN : I don't think so... No one can kill a Jedi Knight.
QUI-GON : I wish that were so...

So the reality is that Jedi aren't all-powerful and invincible, and we even see as much in AoTC, the next movie when a hundred or so Jedi are surrounded and nearly wiped out by Seperatist battle droids.
