I really wish you had held off so it would be a purer debate. Now there is going to be comments on it before I can put out a full, researched reply.

My apologies, but I didn't think it would hurt your argument to have my opening statement public. My apologies; consider any shadow cast by my impatience outweighed by my embarrassment at failing to fully understand your preference. I had no intention of making you feel rushed in any way in publicizing your post.

The cat is, as you have said on SDN, out of the bag for this post - it is public now - and I have clearly failed to correctly understand and follow what you meant by a "one post delay." As you prefer, I'll hold off from posting my second statement until I receive your second statement (and so on).

Why, the language. This sets a new standard. :)
Is Thanatos the King of Spain or did I miss something?
- Expect the red carpet rolled out within the next minute.

I misread the title and thought it said Spock v Thanos. Then, I started thinking. A Vulcan v an unkillable god that sabotages his own schemes because he doesn't think he's worthy of the outcome. Spock wins because Thanos breaks out the reality gem and brings Spock back to life and walks away and forfeits.

Spock v Thanatos will be interesting. I'll refrain from commenting on it and let things develop.

It shouldn't hurt to be nice. Especially since his concern about outside interference was merited. That page spread contains some potentially relevant evidence that is new to me. It may even be new to Thanatos; he, or I, or both, might want to use that information.

Hm. Once Thanatos makes public his first reply - delayed or not - I'll go ahead and split the other posts in this thread off into a commentary thread. I expect some people will want to comment, even if you would rather just watch.

Don't hold your breath waiting for replies, though. There's a lot of material to cover in each reply, and real life has its demands on both of us.

A 70 ton tank with a ~4 megawatt laser?

Ish. I'd be interested in seeing what else that book has in it.

I believe it's a spread from a now-defunct magazine by the title "Inferno!"; there might not be very much else interesting in that particular issue.

Personally, while you instantly note the ~4 megawatts, and Connor MacLeod on SDN instantly notes the ~4 kilotherms, I found the contrast between the two figures more interesting than either figure alone.

Another issue is that if it wasn't new to me, it might look that way by it being referenced before I submit.

I'm going to be able to finally send tomorrow, my battle with my former job is over and I got roughly the money owed to me. Score one for being an irritating and persistent nuisance.

I received the first reply of Thanatos a few hours ago. I have since issued my response to it in kind, but will, in accordance with his desire to not appear influenced by others, delay posting it publicly until after I receive Thanatos's rebuttal.

Was it severance pay you were owed? Regardless congratulations, and I again hope you'll soon have a new job.

No, it was actual pay earned. Pay is staggered by a week and they laid me off on a pay day, so I had a weeks pay on the next deposit. Two weeks later, I checked my account online and found out they had paid me only about 1/6 of my earned pay.

It took 5 days just to get a hold of the sole HR person and got told they would have to "investigate it". Only through constant hounding did I finally get a check yesterday.

While a severance pay would have been far better, at least you got all of your final paycheck.

OK, going to try to get it to you today. However, as if things were not bad enough already, I got a notice saying my license is suspended because I have a speeding ticket in a place in I've never heard of much less been. Hell, I haven't even been in the same state for about 6 years.

The place is sub podunk so I'm trying to get through but it doesn't even have call waiting at their court house.

When it rains, it pours huh?

From that description, I suspect a radar camera making a single digit error in resolving a plate number. Which can be a real pain in the neck to resolve even when you can demonstrate you were nowhere near the place in question...

When you do get around to issuing your late reply, I would remind you there's probably some folk in the peanut galleries here and at SDN would appreciate you publicizing your first reply. As mentioned previously, I will be publicizing my second statement after I receive your second reply, and I leave it wholly up to you to post your half of things in these forums.

Turns out that a truck driver with the same first and last name as me who also lives in Boise was the one who got the ticket, and Nevada sent a notice saying it hadn't been paid to IDOT , IDOT mistakenly attributed it to the wrong person because they improbably used name rather than license number. Which is immensely stupid in a number of obvious ways.

Took the extremely nice lady down in Nevada an hour on the phone with IDOT to fix the problem. I'm apparently going to get an official letter of apology from IDOT for completely wasting a huge chunk of my time.
