GDI as a Federation Founding State

Suggested this on FactPile as well, so I thought I'd bring it here.

What if, in place of United Earth, the Global Defense Initiative from Command & Conquer took the role as the human government in founding the UFP alongside the Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites? How would Starfleet evolve from here?

And perhaps, more importantly, would Kane be able to spread the Brotherhood of Nod's influence to other species as well?
