Old BSG analysis thread

Alright, so, something that popped into my mind recently (partially due to rewatching old "Gary the Cylon" clips on YouTube) was to discuss the technical capabilities of the original Battlestar Galactica universe. Namely, how does it compare to new BSG in terms of firepower, ship durability, etc, as well as other settings?

I seem to recall that someone had a page with screenshots from old BSG . . . I recall it as part of a website rather than a forum. They suggested that entire hull panels flashing blue from the blasters or whatever indicated huge firepower rather than technowhatzits like Trek shields. I can't recall who that was, though.
Really, though, other than the nukes, nuBSG isn't a contender for massive yields. NuVipers might not've done much against older Vipers . . . the nuCylon raiders seemed made of chunky metal based on Scar, et cetera, yet the bullets fired are clearly not moving at ludicrous speed nor are they indicated to be super-dense. (There's an episode where someone was sabotaging the bullets and no one was like "hey, how can you even pick that up?")
That said, nuGalactica took a nuke in the pilot and we basically never hear of lingering effects from that again, so it's hardly a slouch in durability, but I'm not sure how it compares against Lorne's Galactica, really-really.
