A bored super computer decides to run a highly realistic simulation, which pitches the Defender against KITT.
This AI wants to see some neat action, so it prepares two contests.
First, the AI decides to start with a race situation.
After that, it wants to see some combat. A pure "soft" one, and then one where drivers are allowed a bit of "rocket fun".

Both cars come with their best pilot, Joe Payne Astor and Michael Knight, and under their most efficient and latest version (no, not KITT 2000 for krissake!).
  • The Race

Both cars are in a vast desert valley. Kilometers of dry earth, right up to the horizon.
There's a 1 km long straight line. Both cars start side by side. It's all about pure acceleration and boosters.
No direct or indirect attacks on the enemy are allowed.
Both cars start the race, the first one to reach the end, 1 km away, wins the race.

KITT will allow Knight to use all the car's abilities to win the race.
  • The Battle - Part I

Both cars are dropped in the middle of a high flat mesa, a 1 km wide circular plateau, with vertical cliffs. They start 500 m away from each other.
Both pilots can only use all of their car's devices. Nothing else.

To win around, a pilot has to at least disable the oponent's car (burnt circuitry, systems jammed, car toppled, crash, can't roll anymore, etc.).

The first pilot to win two rounds wins the whole match.
After one car is destroyed, both cars are reseted for a new round. Each pilot is reintegrated can use what he has learned from the previous round.

For both battle plots, KITT is allowed to harm and kill all humans safe Knight. KITT is also granted KARR's laser.
  • The Battle - Part II

The conditions are the same above, safe that a victory is only achieved once a car is destroyed, either by falling off a cliff, or from the enemy car's devices.
The first to win two rounds win this part.

However, each driver is also given two B-300s, with an anti-tank round each.

Now here's more info about both cars. A mix of websites and youtube videos. I wish there were more for Viper, but that's not bad, they're quite more furnished than the KITT ones. I shouldn't be so harsh, at least we get videos now. It would have been a bit hard a few years ago! :)
Still, the websites I link to have many pictures as well, some of them revealing interesting details.

Defender (Dodge Viper)

http://projectviper.com Site under construction, built from an old site which was rather complete.
http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~bmg95960/viper/faq.txt Many descriptions of the Defender's abilities, notably weapons, season by season (1/3 down the page).
http://www.viper.jp/index2.html Japanese site, under construction, but has many pictures and a couple of cool videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3QudqJr-rA Grappling hook missing its target :).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPgHO55aYtQ Defender pursuit with another Defender, EMP cannon (ion?), silent airbone drone with claws.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEePpVT96OE Intro. Defender goes through brick wall unscratched, fires net, missile, grappling hook, hovercraft mode, EMP pulse cannon, plenty of morph.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhrx8EcnTGY Shoots a sort of fire missile, good against infantry. ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-bSbYE5ssw Season 2 intro. Confirmation of the Defender flying through a dense brick wall. Homing missile.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zFNzK_BfX4 Nothing special, but cool nonetheless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cZGUKbSFGg Rear camera. Probe launch. Rear machinegun with 90° horizontal firing arc. Front machine gun. Forced morphing: Probe's laser drills through the unarmoured hull and destroys the car.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cZGUKbSFGg Another morphing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7reNPZuko2M Fires some kind of explosive grappling drone. Might be good for something else, otherwise, I don't see the point. Grappling hook stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amUtw6NCJwM Battle armour morphing, which shows the hexagonal cellular plating, from season 1, arguably the best morphing, and changed for the three other seasons to a more mechanical variant, with armour plates sliding in and out. Cheaper to produce. Gone was the kickass morphing, just like the neat HQ.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUplnn462uE The well known intro. Shows autodrive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azwpd_Yjjmk KARR's turboboost, which is a kind of jump function. KITT turbojetted right into a weakened KARR and blasted through it, turning the eveil twin car into a cloud of flames and shrapnel. KITT was left unscratched.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw0mXYWNNBY Turbojet in action. Reaches over 265 MPH and still climbing (even if the normal drive still brings the car well above 135 MPH with ease). Aerobrakes. However, the car gets crushed by that ramming juggernaut. Same tank that can ram through thick brick walls and move on.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDYTfMkbNic KITT's getting stomped by ramming attacks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzaFLI9wnPI KITT impacts with Goliath's molecular bonded protector shell, and gets badly damaged, though most of the structure survives, despite the side impact.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvYZrw4rO5M KITT takes an acid bath. Well, luckily, there won't be any acid in any of the situations from the simulations!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNt1G45bFJY KARR gets inside Devon's truck and has a guy grab a sort of handheld laser.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7QtJ9pA9o0 This assembled fanmade versus between Airwolf and KR shows a rear flamethrower and a rear ground decoy dropper.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=407lo1iIZHI Super Pursuit Mode. Super Pursuit Mode. Super Pursuit Mode. With sticking wheels (or Passive Laser Restraint System - it's a laser man, so it sticks to the road - don't pretend you know what laser means anyway). Super Pursuit Mode. Super Pursuit Mode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RD-uod7Zt0 Quickly shows a quick acceleration reaching the speed of 298 MPH and still going on, that for the latest evolution, with... Super Pursuit Mode!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W4iGm3nbWA KARR's laser. Can damage some concrete, but doesn't dig a hole in KITT's hull, though another hit would cripple it. Instantly raisable reflectors on the windows, able to completely repel the laser.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un-gyFQkHc4 Turboboost may be used to dodge some forms of weaponry.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bykGaVXx3Ck Season 2 intro. Demonstrates the car's obvious ability to withstand chute after impressive turboboosts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qJysvapTv4 Scanners ineffective because of a concentration of lead (?) in the area. Autopilot still possible though, so other sensors are obviously in use. Tainted windows. KITT can't disable the forklifts. Thin steel walls cut comms and can't be rammed succesfully from an initial zero velocity push.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0zPrfNK5OU Electronic field disruptor. Some kind of jamming. The explosives' detonator is ought of range, but this shows that KITT can disable such devices within a certain range.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5875Kc_FF3s Infrared red scan. KITT neutralizes an electrical fence.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnBgoWzzBYg End of clip, KARR able to ram through pillars of concrete undamaged, to make a bridge fall.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fckwadUju_I KITT survives a near point blank detonation of a nice pack of explosives. By default, turboboost has a limited upward angle. Turboboost can eject the car otu of the sand mold.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5m_pKGMJBg Crap clip, but a prepared turboboost can be achieved at a higher elevation angle (3:15).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeVwyiOeq-s Ski mode, automated 2W driving. And I think I hear something about "heater shield" at the end.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2FSDq4luvg Ramming through a nearly two feet thick reinforced concrete wall. Armour in action as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N-abPS7MnE KITT can remotely tap into some electronic cargo door lock system, and activate it like 150~50 meters away. It can hack into the plane's control and access the autopilot, and control it. KITT hax00rz.

So let's see who wins here, between Knight and Astor.

Wasn’t the episode with the ramming juggernaut the one where KITT was sprayed with some solution or whatever that neutralized its molecular shielding allowing the juggernaut to easily defeat it? I’m talking of memories that goes back to my childhood so I could be seriously mistaken, does anyone remembers it?

Edit: Never mind. I just watched the second video about the ramming juggernaut and I was right, there was no way for KITT to be that badly damaged without a plot device at work.

The juggernaut even returned with some explosive stuff at the tip of the ramming tube.

That said, the Defender has a similar level of armour, as it ran full steam ahead into a heavy brick wall, though that would not be as dense as concrete.

Defender has homing missiles, but KITT has rear decoys. A frontal attack will only be avoided by KITT with some pretty well anticipated turboboost, or well placed ski mode, even if that is a temporary dodge that actually puts the car in danger as it looses mobility and hardly reduces its profile.

KITT can jam electronic devices from a distance like 100 m away at best.
This invisible hack can be executed in any direction.
Defender has an EMP cannon that does the same. It can either fire in a tight forward cone, or a right rear one.
The question is which car has any protection against those devices?
KITT had upgraded resistance against high voltage. A Defender clone piloted by Cyrus was disabled by the EMP from the real Defender.
However, this does not mean in any way that KITT's device will have the same level of success.
After Black Box episode, the Defender is imperveous to external electronic hacks. KITT's trick will just do jack. While a couple of Defender's EM pulses will work fine. It would just need to charge up KITT's defenses.

Defender has a gatling which I'm sure will have some bad effect on KITT's wheels.

The Defender's drone will be an advantage here. It comes with its own laser. Not powerful to hurt KITT's armour, but possibly enough to hit the wheels, again.

KITT's armour seems to be almost all about a molecular coating. The famous red front scanner is not protected though. A laser shot in it and bye bye. The drone's precise to enough to accomplis such a shot, but the drone would have to stick around and match KITT's speed, which is another issue, so KITT may always remain out of reach of the drone, and keep its scanner hardlyu targettable.

It will also be able to fire its drilling missiles into the wheels, forcing KITT into harsh maneouvers it won't be able to execute fast enough.

Its holographics projector can cast the image of a person, even through a building's walls apparently. Knight will react to visions which are not real, and only a full scan from KITT's scanners will reveal the farce.

KITT may have the advantage in the armour department, but then, not by that much. There are sources which talk about all sorts of alloys used for the Defender plating, notably adamantium and else. :)

As far as I see it, KITT would win the race with that super pursuit mode. The Defender can reach good speeds, but KITT easily exceeds 300 MPH in SPM.
The Defender can shoto those spider bombs, clamp to the ground and act as mines.

All in all, stats show that teh Viper has a better coernering than the trans AM.

In the combat department, there are too many odds against KITT. However, in the race, the Defender will be left way behind.

EDIT : crap, I forgot that situation: KITT wins the race, but looses all combat situations. So bad that's the one I go for. I'll try to get a mod add it.

You are under the assumption that the Knight 2000 is a standard Trans Am, its not though. But I agree, the Knight 2000 is not a combat vehicle like the Defender is. KITT wins the race but looses combat.

I still like the Knight 2000 better though

Well, after watching quite a bit of KITT episodes on reruns on channel Retro I feel like adding something here, of course on KITT’s behalf, since it’s far and away the coolest car ever on TV and I simply like it better. So, let’s begin, shall we?
The race, as everybody seems to agree, is a foregone conclusion, there is no way in hell that the Defender can beat KITT on an straight course so lets move onto the battle area. As previously noted KITT is not a combat vehicle and was never intended to be one, so it’s not surprising a somewhat lack of offensive weapons but that doesn’t mean that it cannot win on both battles. Electronic warfare? Neither KITT nor KARR attempted to do something like this on each other implying that it wouldn’t have worked and as previously stated KITT survived high voltage electric discharges just fine so is my guess that both adversaries would have to resort to physical methods in order to win. Aiming for the wheels is useless, those are also covered with the molecular coating and AFIK were never damaged by gunfire or anything else for that matter. I don’t know what “drill missiles” are but that sounds as something that, well, drills to do damage and against a moving target such as KITT is not going to work. The red front scanner is not a crippling point, when used against KARR only the laser was disabled. As for the Defender having a similar level of armor as KITT is highly unlikely going with the videos provided, its greatest feat was to smash through a normal wall while both KITT and KARR were shown doing the same against reinforced concrete walls and pillars with awfully ease without even scratching the paint job and lets not forget that KITT completely destroyed KARR by ramming it, again without a scratch. I don’t know if KITT’s laser is going to be good enough so its best strategy is to avoid any attacks that had a chance of crippling it, rockets, missiles and such, without worrying about gunfire or drones and use its superior speed to get close enough to use a turbo-boost attack on the Defender and tear it apart or at least cripple it, anyway the Defender is toast.
