Is anyone here into China Mievillie's Bas-Lag series? I started thinking about it after reading the David Brin essay we've been discussing here. If Star Wars is set in a science fiction world but has fantasy sensibilities, then Mieville's series is the other way around.
The second book, "The Scar" is about a really interesting political institution. My favorite of the series.
