Tanks vs Walkers: The General Case 2

I'll reboot an ancient discussion of tanks vs walkers from here:
http://www.starfleetjedi.net/forum/view ... f=12&t=175

I see both as being good for specific purpose, but tracked vehicles are likely to be somewhat superior.

Reasons:
1) they are faster
2) better manouverability at higher speeds
3) better stability in most cases
4) lower profile (again, in most cases only)
5) less complex - lower price, easier maintenance

Now, walkers might have better performance across rough terrain, and walkers with 6+ legs are likely to cope better with loss of one leg than a tracked vehicle with loss of track. However, legs will likely be easier to destroy.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me, two equally advanced examples I'd say the tank will be cheaper, more reliable and more stable.

One thing about settings like Star Wars is that there is no reason Tanks can't have at least limited flight.

IRL, the only practical walker design would be a spider-walker, due to weight distribution, less chance of a missing leg crippling it, and the main body being low to the ground like a tank.
