East Roman Empire in Middle Earth
Roman Empire under basileus Basilius II from AD 958 gets transported into Middle Earth of TA 2958. Middle Earth is extended westwards by will of Valar, in order to accomodate new landmass and state on it. How does this go? Romans get full populace, military and economical basis too.

they'll probably make friends with Rohan and Gondor trading with them you'll see them be highly resistant and distrusting of the white council
the one true god..whom the Valar cannot deny..and the presence of Satan's second in command should mean an interesting internal revision for their religion

Religion most probably won't be a problem. Valar are equivalent of Christian archangels, and Maiar are lower-grade angels, while God is one, ever same. Not only that, but basically all good people in ME believe in Illuvatar. With late-Roman obsession with religious matters, however...

actually I think they're a mix between Christian seraphim Hindu Avatars and greek and norse gods..in terms of actual actions and powers.Picard wrote:Religion most probably won't be a problem. I see it as a mere name change really, the fact that Eru did actually send an emissary to 'die so that others could live' and the Messiah like associations Turin and Erendil have
the only real problems might arise when they learn Elrond was Erendils brother and Galadriel learned under an 'angel'...them becoming quickly semi religious icons might piss them off pretty badly..
they have the military potency to be a threat to the enemy but lack Gondor/Naughrim/Eldar metallurgy but this can be overcome by an exchange of knowledge which the Eastern Empire should have plenty to offer..their steadfastness in religion means Saruman and the wizards might get shunned..or revered a little too much..Sauron will be fanatically fought unless subversion occurs.
Western European Christians might be easier turned by Sauron then..these guys
