Starfleet Jedi

Alright, so here is the scenario: Sephiroth and Palpatine end up in a duel to the death. Whether they are in the Star Wars universe or the Final Fantasy universe does not really matter. Who do you think would win?

Personally, my bet is on Sephiroth. In terms of raw power, Sephiroth far exceeds even the most accomplished Jedi/Sith in existence, and his powers are far more versatile than what either the Jedi or the Sith have. Sure, there are claims of Sith being able to destroy planets without the aid of technology, but there is very little evidence to support this.

Where their abilities overlap (e.g. telekinesis, reading minds, levitation, etc.), Sephiroth's ability are again far superior. In addition, he has superhuman strength and reflexes, equal or superior to that of the most experienced Jedi/Sith. While Jedi must utilize the aid of advanced technology (i.e. Lightsabers) in order to cut through a wide variety of material and augment their abilities in general, Sephiroth can do it effortlessly with a simple sword and his raw magical power. In addition, his sword can also utilize energy blasts, and strike at a distance.

In addition, he is seen to have a remarkable degree of endurance. For example, he is obviously able to extremes in temperatures, as is shown during the Burning of Nibelheim, where he was seen standing right in the middle of flames burning at hundreds of degrees without any visible effort or the need for special magic (for comparison, Anakin at his peak was unable to do this for very long, see the end of Episode III for an example). He is also incredibly difficult to kill, given his regenerative capabilities.

Combined with his powerful magic, it is hard to see how Palpatine would be able to even damage him, let alone kill him. His most powerful attack, Force Lightning, would probably have no effect, and even if it did, Sephiroth can just simply block it, dodge it, or even absorb it. The only real weapon he has would be to use his lightsaber, but even then it is questionable if it would have much effect. True, he uses a metal sword, which would be next to useless against a lightsaber, but then again this only applies if he did not use some sort of protection measure (or just simply kept his distance, or avoided contact with the lightsaber).

In short, I think Palpatine would be completely outclassed. The fight might drag on, because Sephiroth usually has the tendency to toy with his opponents when they happen to be weak, but for the most part it would be completely one sided.


However, some of you might beg to differ. So, I will leave this to discussion among the rest of you guys. The rules are simply this; that they are allowed to use all known and verified abilities, and that we are comparing them at the peak of their power. For Palpatine, he can use Force Lightning, Force Push, telekinesis, etc. Sephiroth has access to the full range of his abilities too, including his ability to fly.

forgive me for the spartanesque reply after your awesome intro post but I'ma go with the guy who has genuine super human speed and reaction time and can call down meteors (unless you stripped that power?) over the guy who got turned into a Kentucky fried force user after having his swordsmanship skills torn apart by jackson

I think they both have genuine super-human speed. Its just that the mechanism for how its accomplished is a little different. I'm assuming both of them have full access to their powers, so Sephiroth can use Meteor strike, fly, cut through skyscrapers, etc., and Palpatine can use force lightning, force push, etc.

Yep. Mostly a strategy gamer, so Final Fantasy is included in the mix. I'm actually more familiar with FFX than with FFVII, but I've played through them enough to get a handle on their combat capabilities.

I watch anime too, although I focus a lot more on science fiction ones rather than fantasy (e.g. Gundam or Ghost in the Shell).

Who knows... perhaps Sephiroth would be curious about the dark side of the Force.
That's all there is to offer. Sidious goes down too fast. He is no match for Sephiroth. You'd need to use some other EU Force sensitive character with some greater powers.
The higher feats seen in TFU or from some powerful Sith Lords would fit better.

while movie Sidious is indeed superhumanly fast and agile by real world standards Tim Drake from batman comics has better reaction time and speed feats then he does..much less sephiroth who makes far far faster characters look like statues..

I regret never fully immersing myself in FF but I recall sephiroth for all the times he got put against EU sith lords and comic book characters and having to debate for and against him..

I hear they are good games

They are all good games, with the exception of any game past FFXI, the more recent ones. My personal favorites are FFVII and FFX, and both have characters that would utterly dominate the Jedi and Sith.

I don't know much about the EU sith capabilities. All I know is that Palpatine was apparently the most powerful Sith to have ever lived, and his powers really aren't that impressive compared to the characters of other franchises. Although, I suppose he's might be more powerful in the EU canon than in the movies, but I don't really see them being able to come anywhere close to taking on Sephiroth, or any of his less powerful foes for that matter.

palpatine was considered to be the strongest sith alive because some hack writer in the EU gave him powers he never ever displayed ever..and tried to claim that it was totally canon and legit

like tking luke with the force power of a solar system...having an aura that radiated across the galaxy..creating vast force storms..and a gigantic heap of other such nonsense..never ever remotely backed up by the movies

if you discount this massively OOC totally unjustified character wank of luke and Sidious..the strongest force users ever...would likely be going by feats Naga sadow who caused star systems to explode Exar Kun who casually voice screwed Saruman from LOTR style thousands of jedi knights to the dark side on the jedi's capital world in they're place of power...psionically paralyzed the entire Republic senate while simultaneously dueling a Jedi master who could challenge lightsabers with sticks..obliterate souls rip the soul out of luke skywalker despite being a vastly weakened spirit and seal it in the force preventing him from waking up and coming back to life...until he got help from the ghosts of other powerful masters, another good contender is Darth nilhious from KOTOR who literally absorbed the force from planets killing all the residents

Nomi Sunrider was said to be as well the greatest Jedi Master to ever live and could seal off your force powers even the more powerful sith lords had no defense against this iirc

of course if you want to include fluff material the strongest force user to ever exist is Marka Ragnos..who kinda never did anything on panel but did a bunch of unbelievable shit in the past

so essentially yeah EU sidious and Luke and Yoda are said to be the strongest force users to ever live...the issue with that is they're EU feats are largely Grade A BS that aren't even remotely backed up by the movies in any capacity and really shouldn't be taken seriously..going by the movies these dudes while impressive and cool and Yoda being besides Mace and Dooku my favorite character, I'll honestly admit based on what they actually did do not compare in any way to the stuff in the ancient force user comics and EU luke siddy and yoda..are just fan wanked unverified hunks of garbage

They really did a number in the EU regarding force wankage didn't they?, still "cha-ching" > believability in all things suppose.

mind you if the perversion and violation of my fictional universe yielded me the profits the EU does I'd probably milk it for all its worth and maybe even create a jedi who wears pimp robes and a big purple hat as an author insert just to remind all the real fans of exactly what I'm doing because hey why not? If I assign them awesome force powers they'll probably be loved

Lucas precisely did that by allowing that forcefully crammed new character into TFU, with a bloke now capable of bringing down an Imperial Star Destroyer or Force blasting entire rooms.

Hey, let's make DBZ with katanas, lots of pointless talking and special moves with silly names so fans will sweat their glands out over them on video game merchandising... power creep...

to be fair Bleach only had quality compared to the other stuff out at the time before it took a dive and it was always portrayed that way

this is not the case with star wars and the whoring it gets and the resulting inflation of abilities

Bleach seems more like a cheap ripoff of Final Fantasy than one of DBZ, although it also has quite a bit of crashingly dull filler and escalating power levels too. Its certainly much more boring; at least the villains of DBZ had limitations and some semblance of a personality, unlike Aizen.
