Craftworld Eldar versus Galactic Republic

Post by User1390 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 7:40 pm

This is inspired by the thread about Dark Eldar fighting on geonosis by Tim1000064 on spacebattles

Who would win in a ground battle(meaning no space support not no aerial vehicles) between the craftworld eldar and the Galactic Republic? Both armies will be similar size and show their usual levels of competence and tactical ability.

The numbers are similar to those seen in Star Wars Episode 2 during the battle of Geonosis. By aerial vehicles I mean non space ones like the Republic's LAAT's and other similar things. Also if the Craftworld Eldar having similar numbers would give them an unfair advantage we can change it up to make this a better match up.

It's hard to say. They're both advanced, but the clonetroopers don't appear to be very good. They're more like cannon fodder, with mediocre aim on the average.
The problem is to know if the Eldars have a better aim, if their ground units pack more advanced tech per unit on the average, and if they'll do the typical rush on plains thing or not.

Also if the Craftworld Eldar having similar numbers would give them an unfair advantage we can change it up to make this a better match up.
Why?
There's no point evening both sides until we get a draw.
If one is superior, let's just accept it.

well the eldar use guns that fire really sharp blades at people so the clonetroopers might have a better gun for their infantry. eldar have got most of their troops as militia with lots of otehr specialist troops like aspect warriors but a lot of them are sword waving guys.

Ugh, I detest the Eldar but I'd have to vote for them in this case.

In AOTC the Republic Army's support is basically limited to those retarded AT-TE's (lol, exposed main gunner+Eldar Ranger=dead) and the Eldar have a whole host of skimmers as ground vehicles.

The Eldar's weak spot is that they field very little in the way of large units. But seeing as they usually attack from ambush and then use the superior mobility of their skimmers (or the webway) to retreat it's not much of an issue for them normally.

If the Eldar have a Farseer, Warlock, Avatar, Wraithlord or a titan, the GR is pretty pooched.

No, 40k does the exact same thing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q3CK8Rw ... re=related

The only difference is that they're tougher, smarter, and better equipped. In an equal fight, the Eldar slaughter the Clones with minimal loss of life. Their only real threat on the field are Jedi, but they're not much of a match for a Farseer or possibly a small squad of Banshee.

The main problem for the Eldar here is numbers. They don't really have them and their homeworld, while mobile, is still too slow to do anything if the Republic discovers it and launches a full scale assault. In that case, a naval victory would be in order. Again, the Eldar have the advantage with cloaked ships--and possibly a distinct firepower advantage, but it all comes down to how many ships can be thrown at them.

The Eldar could still make a mess of things either way though.

Doesn't the Eldar military out number the Republic's military?

The Republic only had a military numbering 3,000,000. What numbers does a craft world hold in terms of warriors/solders?

I meant 40k in general. They tend to like their charges-into-melee stuff. Mind you, the ones that do it tend to be tough enough to get it done. The eldar tend to not fight fair, so they won't be charging unless in close melee.

In short; no, the Republic will not win. With equal numbers the eldar easily slaughters their entire army. Hell, outnumbered ten to one, they could still slaughter them.

EDIT: I believe one underpopulated craftworld had like 10,000--or was suggested to. Apparently the Eldar sacrificed millions of humans to save 10,000 Eldar by instigating a war between an ork faction and the Imperium. That's probably a military casuality list though--the number's just too small. I would expect a craftworld to have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of eldar aboard. Their standing army is probably closer to say 50,000 to 500,000...but this is just really guessing.

Even so, I'd still give them good odds at taking out the Republic army.
