Trek Wars: Evangelion: Aeon of Terror

Five-Way Fusion Fan RP. Star Trek, Star Wars, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Diablo, and the Cthulhu Mythos.

The setting.
It is 2164. The United Federation of Planets has recently been founded by the humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites. For the first time in remembered history, an interstellar power was founded not based on one species dominating others, but by various races working together for the common good. Ironic, considering the animosity that once existed between three of the races. However, the threat of the powerful and ancient Mi-Go Empire was enough to force the various worlds into unity.

The Mi-Go.
The Mi-Go are a race of animal-plant-fungus hybrids, requiring the addition of a new kingdom of eukaryotic life just to account for them. They resemble at first, a hybrid of Earth's two dominant animal groups - the vertebrates and the arthropods. Their basic body form resembles a crustacean, while their wings appear to be those of bats.

Image

However, like fungi, their heads contain numerous hyphae, used for consuming food, which, like a fungus' hyphae, break down the food before absorption. Their cells have cell walls, composed of chitin, much like a fungus. Like a plant, their cells contain chloroplasts and chlorophyll, used in the event that they venture to a world fairly close to a star. However, for the most part, the Mi-Go prefer darkness, as bright lights easily hurt their eyes, or rather, eye-analogues.

The Mi-Go Empire, at its height, controlled vast portions of the Milky Way galaxy, as well as the Magellanic Clouds, and even some territory in the Andromeda Galaxy. However, their numbers and power were both reduced in fearsome wars with the Shan, the Kelvans, and the Iconians. The Mi-Go never truly recovered from that last war, and today, are at a fraction of their former strength, even though no one power in local space will dare challenge them.

Despite the fact that their government is called the Mi-Go "Empire", there hasn't been an Emperor for the past five million years, long before their first war with the Shan. Instead, Mi-Go society is an odd caste-based democracy, with politicians and officials being elected from the three castes - Warrior, Worker, and Scientist. Each of the castes has an equal say in the government, and are seen as equally important to the running of the Empire.

Mi-Go starships are quasi-organic, and heavily armed and armored. Bristling with plasma and disruptor weaponry, a single Mi-Go vessel has been seen being able to hold its own against six Klingon D-5 battlecruisers.

Oddly, the Mi-Go's presence in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, while still considerable, has been lessening lately, for reasons known only to the Mi-Go.

While the Mi-Go are seen as being overbearing and bossy - and many times, rightfully so - they have a very good reason for behaving this way.

The Great Old Ones
Ancient Demi-Gods from when the stars were young, the Great Old Ones now mostly lie dormant, waiting for the stars to be right for their return once more. Their minds work so differently from those of mortals that no terms of "good" or "evil" can really apply to them. Their numbers include:

Cthulhu:
Image
The most (in)famous of the Great Old Ones, Cthulhu currently sleeps in his sunken city of R'lyeh, on the Federation capital world - Earth. Currently dormant, plans are being devised to deal with him should he awaken.

Cthugha:
Image
A living ball of flame currently travelling the interstellar void. Is the key to stopping -if only temporarily - Nyarlathotep.

Atlach-Nacha
Image
The Patron Great Old One of Spiders. Atlach-Nacha appears as a giant spider, with the face of a human woman. Most of the time, she's spent bridging a huge chasm in Hyperborea - an alternate dimension's version of Greenland. However, when summoned, her presence is made known by the arrival of absolutely ridiculous numbers of spiders.

Rhan-Tegoth
Image
The weakest of the Great Old Ones. Rhan-Tegoth was imprisoned by humans in the early 20th century. Not through any special means, but in wax. He has escaped since then, and is currently wandering the galaxy. Some speculate that if he is killed, the other Great Old Ones will never return. However, there is little, if any, evidence to support this theory.

Ithaqua
Image
A Great Old One with powers over ice and cold, Ithaqua vaguely resembles a giant version of the wendigos of Algonquian mythology on Earth. Currently living on Andoria, he wanders the frozen wastes, killing any unfortunate enough to come near him. He broke free of the curse put on him that bound him to the northernmost regions of Earth's continent of North America, only to have it placed on him again when he arrived in Andoria's polar regions.

Dagon
Image
Leader of the Deep Ones, a race in-between fish and amphibians native to Earth, and the object of worship of the infamous cult, the Esoteric Order of Dagon. The Order suffered a major setback in the 1920s, when many of its members were killed by the U.S. government. The Order and Deep Ones suffered even more in the 1950s and 1960s, when many Deep One cities found themselves the epicenter of both American and Soviet nuclear tests. While many Deep Ones inevitably survived, the vast majority of that race was wiped out by Cold War activities. It is only in the 22nd century that the EOD is even approaching its pre-1920s levels. However, the God they worship is still very dangerous, and locating him is one of Starfleet Intelligence's top priorities.

Shudde-M'ell
Image
Leader of the Cthonians, a race of giant worms with squid-like heads. He is a master of telepathy and psychic assaults, and is virtually indestructable. He does - as do all Cthonians - have one critical weakness. Water - even in relatively small amounts - is lethal to Cthonians.

It should be noted that even though they are nearly Gods, and can assume new forms should one be destroyed, the Great Old Ones can - and some, like Hastur and Ghatanothoa, have been - be killed permanently. However, for the more powerful ones, only one weapon possesses the power to do so.

The Evangelions
Image
Created under the supervision of Admiral Gendo Ikari, the Evangelions - or Evas, for short - are 55-meter-tall cyborgs, created by the cloning of a massive humanoid biological construct found on the planet Ceti Alpha V. The race that left the construct has long since gone extinct, but their remaining computer records show constructs similar to this one slaying Great Old Ones. However, the original construct - and indeed, only surviving one of the originals - was too frail to move from the planet where it lay, after being exposed to the elements for millions of years, and so DNA samples were taken from it. This being, nicknamed "Adam", was cloned first into three, and then later, much more, Evangelion units, starting with the Prototype, Evangelion Unit-00.

Image

The next four units, the Test-Type, Unit-01
Image
and the first three "true" Evangelions, Units-02 through 04, were built not long after.
Unit-02:

Unit-03:

Unit-04:
Image

There were later two attempts to build Mass-Produced Evas. The first attempt, produced the Mark Is.
Image
This attempt was a disaster, as these Evas began to attack and devour each other.

The Mark IIs, based off of Unit-04, proved to be a success, however, and now are deployed throughout the Federation, and proved instrumental in the slaying of the Great Old One Eihort.

The reason the Evas can defeat the Great Old Ones is their ability to project a region of absolute terror, also known as an A.T. Field, a psychic force field that serves as a deflector shield, and can cancel out those produced by the Great Old Ones.

The primary downside to the Evas is that they must form a neurological bond with their pilots. In order to achieve this, the pilots have to be young, but old enough to have at least started puberty. Any younger than 14, and the hormonal composition of their bodies isn't right. Any older than 24, and their brains have developed fully, not allowing any further neural connections. The other is a side effect of piloting the Eva, which runs on the thoughts of the pilot, the pilot feels whatever happens to the Eva.

Espers and other "empowered" individuals.
There are roughly ten million people spread throughout the Federation with unique abilities. Three of these groups often are deemed "stable" enough that the Federation lets them use their powers on a fairly regular basis.

Espers
People of various species have displayed incredible psychic powers, including the power to read minds, and remotely manipulate objects. These are most prominent among the Andorians, where a whole subspecies, the Aenar, display these powers, and the Vulcans, many of whom are touch-telepaths, and able to read a subject's mind with the legendary "Vulcan mind meld", and even possess the ability to transfer one's katra, or soul, into another living body, at the time of death.

Force-sensitives.
In the 2120s, many people began noticing others with strange powers that couldn't even be explained by the psychic powers of the Espers. Taken in for analysis, these people revealed startling information, once scanned. Their mitochondria were significantly different from those of normal members of their species, and allowed them to tune in to some "life-force", or "Force" as they called it. Many of their abilities were similar to those shown by Espers, although, there were some differences, such as the ability to project massive electrical discharges, or extend the life of those they cared about. Realizing that if left unchecked, these people could pose just as much of a threat as a rogue Esper, they began to take oaths of discipline and honor, as well as stoicism, eventually forming a religious order, named the Jedi. As times began to grow nastier, these "Jedi" began to arm themselves. Using plasma-arc technology that let them create blades of plasma, also known as lightsabers. These blades come in multiple colors, although green and blue are by far the most common.

Sorcerers
Bizzarely, magic does indeed exist. There are two sanctioned "clans" of mages, the all-female Zann Esu Clan, and the all-male Cult of Rathma.

The Zann Esu, an ancient clan of unknown origins, devote their studies to what they believe to be the three "magical" elements - fire, ice, and lightning. That is, the studies of control over temperature and electrical currents. They consider all other forms of magic to be "debase", and instead focus on the elemental disciplines. The sight of a sorceress on the battlefield is enough to provide relief to Federation troops, and terrify the forces of its enemies. The Zann Esu go on recruiting missions every seven years, where they find a family with a seven-year-old girl. Always courteous and polite, they'd ask a few questions, and then leave. A select few of these girls were later chosen to become apprentices.

The Cult of Rathma, also known as necromancers, has been an unjustly maligned group since time immemorial. This is because control of the dead is often seen as taboo in nearly every culture throughout the galaxy. And while it is true that the art that the necromancer practices is "dark", the goals of the Priests of Rathma are among the noblest. They seek to bring about a world where the mortal races are no longer playthings for beings from beyond. They know what waits after death, and do not fear it, believing it part of the cycle of life, death, and rebirth that they call "The Great Cycle of Being", which also serves as a cosmic balance. Because of their devotion to balance, and their lack of fear of death, the necromancers are the only mage group to have never even partially fallen victim to corruption.

The Great Conflict.
The Great Old Ones are not the only arcane beings out there. Older than even they, is the Eternal Conflict between the forces of the High Heavens and the Burning Hells.

Since the Dawn of Time at the Big Bang, the forces of Heaven and Hell have waged constant war across both the physical and spiritual planes. While the exact origins of this conflict are unknown, it is almost certainly due to their natures being polar opposites. Angels, beings of Light and Order, are fought by Demons, beings of Darkness and Chaos, with neither side ever gaining a true advantage over the other. Plots, counter-plots, and counter-counter-plots occur daily, and the war rages over the whole universe.

The Leaders of Heaven are the Five Archangels of the Angiris Council. They are Tyrael, Archangel of Justice, Auriel, Archangel of Hope, Imperius, Archangel of Valor, Malthael, Archangel of Wisdom, and Itharael, Archangel of Fate.

The Prime Evils who rule Hell, are:
Diablo; Lord of Terror,
Image

Mephisto; Lord of Hatred,
Image

and Baal; Lord of Destruction.

So, the race/class system is thus:

Races:
Human
Vulcan
Andorian
Tellarite

Classes:
M.A.C.O.
Esper
Jedi Knight
Section 31 Agent
Eva Pilot
Necromancer
Sorceress
Engineer
Science Officer
Medic

Important NPCs:
Gendo Ikari:
Image
Admiral Ikari is the head of Starfleet's Evangelion Branch, devoted to Eva construction and maintenance, as well as research into the capabilities of the Great Old Ones. Cold, ruthless, and manipulative, Ikari would have long ago been fired from any other job. Thankfully for him, the SEB isn't your ordinary job...

Kozo Fuyutsuki:
Image
Second-In-Command of the SEB, Fuyutsuki is everything Gendo is not. Formerly a professor of metaphysical biology at Starfleet Academy, Fuyutsuki runs many of the SEB's day-to-day operations, as well as assisting Gendo in his research.

Misato Katsuragi:
Image
Head of the SEB's tactical division, Misato is easy-going when off duty, but dead-serious when on it. She is also a bit of an alcoholic.

Ritsuko Akagi:
Image
The Chief Science Officer and head of research of SEB. An old friend of Colonel Katsuragi's and rumored to be Admiral Ikari's mistress. However, these rumors are almost impossible to confirm or deny.

Rei Ayanami:
Image
Pilot of Evangelion Unit-00. Mysterious, and otherworldly, she has some difficulty expressing emotions, due to her life in SEB labs, and away from too much human interaction. That said, she does show feelings for Admiral Ikari's son, Shinji.

Shinji Ikari:
Image
The son of Admiral Ikari, and pilot of Evangelion Unit-01. Shy and kind, he is, like Fuyutsuki, the opposite of Gendo in many ways. However, unlike Fuyutsuki, who has Gendo's confidence, but none of his coldness, Shinji seeks the kindness and approval of others as a reason to keep on living in these troubled times.

Asuka Langley Soryu:
Image
Pilot of Evangelion Unit-02. Of mixed German, Japanese, and American descent, Unit-02's pilot is brash, hot-headed, arrogant, and, in the words of quite a few, "a bit of a ham". Having lost her mother Kyoko at a very young age not long after her (Kyoko's) contact experiment with Unit-02, Asuka was raised by her father, and then later, by the local Zann Esu coven. It was here that the sorceress Katrina Leonova served as a second mother figure for the young Asuka, relieving much of her anger at the world. Although very short-tempered, Asuka does display a compassionate side, and, like Rei, has romantic feelings for Shinji. Warning: Soryu is a very competent sorceress. Crossing her would be... unwise.

Jonathan Archer:
Image
President of the United Federation of Planets, and captain of humanity's first Warp 5 vessel, Enterprise. Archer has little patience for bureaucrats and pencil-pushers. He will do anything to ensure the Federation's survival, even if it means committing morally questionable acts.

Malcolm Reed:
Image
Reed is a curious person. Shy, yet trigger-happy, the Secretary of Defense is not a man to be trifled with. Another interesting thing about him is the rumors of his possible connection to the mysterious organization known only as "Section 31". However, Mr. Reed has refused to so much as comment on any of these questions, when asked by some of the very few people who have any idea of Section 31's existence.

Thy'lek Shran:
Image
Former captain of the Andorian battlecruiser Kumari, Shran was one of the people instrumental in the founding of the Federation. Currently, General Shran is one of the most esteemed officers in the entire Federation. Passionate, and quick to anger, Shran reminds the few who know both of Asuka Langley Soryu. A fact that is best left unmentioned when either is in the room.

Galen Marek:
Image
One of the most powerful Force-sensitives ever, Marek is reclusive and quiet, though passionate. Those who have fought along side him mention a sort of "tranquil fury" in his eyes when enraged.

Tyrael:
Image
Archangel of Justice, Tyrael is the only member of the Angiris Council who actually cares enough about the mortal races to actively get involved in their fights against the Legions of Hell and the Great Old Ones. Tyrael keeps his face masked by a veil of darkness, for reasons unknown to any mortal. The very very few who have seen his face describe it as "beautiful beyond comprehension". While friendly and approachable, he has little patience during times of crisis.

Weapons:
Phase Pistol
Image
The phase pistol is Starfleet's main sidearm, one that's been in use for fourteen years. A phase-modulated particle weapon, this weapon replaced the EM-33 as the standard sidearm of Starfleet. The phase pistol possesses two settings "stun", and "kill".

Phase Rifle
Image
The phase rifle is essentially a scaled-up version of the phase pistol, however, they have the ability to switch between pulses and beams. Significantly scaled-up versions are used by the Evangelions.

Photon Grenades (and launcher)
Image
Sometimes even phase rifles don't cut it. Miniaturized versions of the photonic (and later photon) torpedoes used by starships, these explosives annihilate small packets of deuterium and antideuterium to produce large explosions, capable of leveling more primitive armies in almost no time.

Progressive Knife
Image
A common melee weapon, the progressive knife (or prog-knife, as its sometimes called) uses high-intensity vibrations to allow it to cut through flesh and metal with minimal effort. Much like the phase rifle, it comes in both personal and Eva-use sizes. The Necromancers fancy these weapons, especially when dipped in poisons.

Lightsaber
Image
The lightsaber is a weapon used almost exclusively by Force-sensitives. The blade is a beam of plasma that can cut through almost anything, that arcs back in on itself, due to a magnetic field generated by the hilt. The color of the blade is determined by the color of the crystal used. Blue and green are by far the most common colors, although yellow, violet, white, orange, and red are not unheard of. Once thought to be rumor, but now known to exist, is a prototype with a black blade. A common misconception is that using a crystal with two colors, or two crystals of different colors, will produce a blade of two colors. In reality, the colors just mix. For example, using a blue crystal and a green one will get you a cyan blade. If one were to use the whole spectrum, one would end up with a white blade. (Yes, Praeothmin, that jab IS directed towards where you think it is.)

Starships

Various classes of starships make up Starfleet, many moreso after the Federation was founded. The primary classes of Starship used by Starfleet are:

NX-class
Planet of Origin: Earth
Image

D'Kyr-class
Planet of Origin: Vulcan
Image

Kumari-class
Planet of Origin: Andoria
Image

Nozra-class
Planet of Origin: Tellar
Image

Daedalus-class
Planet of Origin: N/A (Developed all across the Federation)
Image

Many more classes of starship also exist. However, they are far less prominent than the ones shown here.

(Yes, I am aware that the ship I used for the Tellarites was really an Arkonian battlecruiser. That's because the models used were one and the same.)

Enemies

The Mi-Go Empire is not the only alien race that poses a threat to the nascent Federation. There are many other dangers in the Milky Way. However, for the sake of convenience, only those factions that are actually antagonistic to the UFP will be listed, as well as their "threat level".

Klingon Empire
Threat Level: Moderately High
Image
Hailing from the planet Qo'noS, the Klingons are a proud warrior race, with a dedicated military, the most (in)famous of their ships being the:
Bird-of-Prey
Image

Raptor
Image

and D-5 Battlecruiser
Image

Despite the fact that Klingons are vicious, they are also honorable, almost never resorting to underhanded tactics when in combat. However, there have been several Klingon espionage efforts against Starfleet, particularly against the SEB, for the Klingons desire their own Evangelion units, so as to - in their eyes - level the playing field in ground battles. It is fortunate that none of these efforts have been successful. The thought of what Klingons could do with Evas at their disposal is a frightening one indeed!

Romulan Star Empire
Threat Level: Moderate*
Image
The other main alien threat to the Federation is the Romulan Star Empire. An enigmatic race, the Romulans have never shown their faces to anyone in the Federation, not even during the Earth-Romulan War, a fresh memory in the minds of most people. As such, we can only begin to speculate what they might actually be like.

The main Romulan starship is their own Bird-of-Prey.
Image

It is rumored that some members of the Vulcan government know more about the Romulans than they're letting on. However, these rumors are just that, rumors.

*The only reason for the Romulan threat being only "moderate" is due to their secrecy and isolationist policies.
