" You are rushing into war with one of the most powerful, ingeniously mechanical, and determined people on Earth — right at your doors." William T Sherman Earth Christmas eve 1860

Imperial Starbase Crimson shield – two hours later

Acting Captain Hertz and Aryas sat down in a luxurious conference room looking around, it was furnished in a way he had never seen before, the luxurious table made from wood likely from Kashyyk or some exotic location. The chairs seemed to be hand carved and all around him was exotic art and in one case he noticed Maniac looking at, contained a very old looking lightsaber. “You like that one?” they both turned and eyed Turhain who entered he had a look of concern and frustration but also seemed to be working a great deal of things over. “it’s nice Sir” Aryas said, Turhain nodded ‘it belonged to Odan Urr he was a Jedi master and scholar from thousands of years ago, he rarely used his lightsaber but when he did he won” Turhain said Aryas nodded the name sounded familiar to him, he thought maybe it was from a history holo he read as a child in school? “Oh so that’s who that ship is named after?” Maniac asked, and immediately Aryas realized where he heard it, from imperial reports the Odan Urr was a rebel capital ship which was under command of Captain Garros the man responsible for the Dominion declaring war on the empire. He made a mental note to memorize the name; if he ever faced the Urr in battle he would personally lead the boarding party that would capture Garros. Captain Hertz eyed him standing and saluting Turhain nodded back and then gestured for them all to sit down. “So your briefing is accurate then? There wasn’t some super laser malfunction?” Hertz nodded ‘from the testimony of Acting General Aryas and Colonel Cronus sir, the resolute was knocked out of battle very early on and it was just a daze for us until the end” he said a bitterness in his voice. Turhain nodded and then closed his eyes deep in thought; these new weapons presented a very serious problem. Maniac gestured “sir one thing I noticed about these weapons is about four times they destroyed or crippled their own ships” he said Turhain nodded he had read that in his report ‘so you think they’re new? Experimental?” Turhain asked pensive “no sir, in fact I’m sure they are very wide spread weapons wherever they come from” Turhain didn’t like that ‘explain your reasoning” “well basically how they seemed to hesitate letting the weapons loose in only certain situations and what have you it leads me to believe they are weapons their used too and weapons they avoid using if at all possible, the fact that we only saw them in this battle means they were likely stockpiled sir”

Turhain nodded, these were all great observations and they made sense, the only question was what did this mean? Was the Dominion desperate and thus resorted to such weapons? Or were they trying to send a message to the empire? They tended to highly favor psi-ops type battles where they could inflict maximum brutality and death or prove a point and it was becoming a very swiftly annoying habit. “I have another issue I want to run by you all” he said calmly “but it can wait until our other guests have arrived and Cronus” he said calmly as servants came in with various food and wines ‘for now you are my guests and you may eat well” he said as he took a glass of wine for himself.

Hertz made a mental note to learn how to stomach alcohol fast because it seemed like every superior office above Captain he ran into could drank ungodly quantities of alcohol.

Allied Starbase Red Dawn

Captain Garros walked towards the observation deck as he saw another rebel freighter take off escorted by Dominion ships bringing supplies to one of the smaller mid rim worlds abandoned by the empire. He smiled widely; it was good to see good work being done. He had convinced the Vorta to escort his ships on these supply runs and it was a bit of an argument, but it had been worth it, millions were now cut off and alone in minor backwaters that no one cared about and without imperial aid for food or medicine thousands would die. Befriending these backwaters was important and with replicators feeding them and providing them with mechanical supplies was no trouble at all or at least vastly less difficult. While it was true he still hated politics he could do allot now that he couldn’t before and was thankful for that. Still in the back of his mind he realized while Admiral Ackbar still trusted him the rebel leadership began to show some suspicions. He thought about that, was it his closeness to Vi’retess? The old Vorta was a puzzle to him on the one hand the man had genuinely taught him a great deal and had been like very much a mentor he always knew there was something in the back of the old ones head something dark and he knew he couldn’t fully be trusted, but he also knew there were many in the galaxy and in the alliance that did. He had become an iconic figure almost a religious icon and the imperials took to calling him the mad preacher, the great heretic. These things only solidified his sermons of course and he knew someone that good at manipulating people could easily conceal an ulterior motive; the question was always what though? The Dominion might have been planning some great infiltration to take the galaxy over when the war ended and the alliance was in charge of most of the galaxy but too weak to fully mount a defense and what was left of the empire too broken to fight. Crix Nadine still believed they were doing this but Garros didn’t they could have easily armed them with advance technology that would have turned the war in there favor and allowed them a win and then instead of wasting thousands of ships now run into the galaxy in a vast armada of cloned warriors and take it all over. But they didn’t and Vi’retess was always so disturbingly sincere about his desire to see the Republic restored and he truly wasn’t sure why that worried him so much?

“Just what are you thinking about?” Vi’retess asked the familiar old voice brought Garros out of his thoughts turning he eyed the old Vorta who had a bizarre habit of sneaking up on him. “Hello preacher, I want to see Home 1 I hear she’s amazing” Vi’retess laughed “ah yes the pride of the Mon Calamari fleet, her new B wings as well” Garros had heard about that, not only had Vi’retess dispatched engineers who combined the galaxies technology with Dominion technology for the first time ever from the ground up. She had been constructed over several months a record time for Mon Calamari engineers and the B wings again the first ever fusion built by the rebels supposedly performed beyond expectation in all combat simulations.

They both stood there until a blue swirl of subspace erupted in space Garros watched it intently and then gasped in surprise when a massive Mon Calamari cruiser exited slipstream? Her long frame glimmered the light of the red giant reflecting off her new surface, along the “fins” extending on other side he saw the bright blue glow on red of the nacelles, a deflector dish was situated under the “nose” of the large cruiser, engines roaring Garros frowned “you have to be kidding me she’s a prototype and Ackbar is taking her into battle?” “I know surprising isn’t it? He’s a very cautious Admiral very weary but he is capable of surprising boldness don’t you think?” he asked though the move surprised him and he made a mental note to pay closer attention to the admiral, very little slipped by him but this Admiral whom he pegged as rather predictable had gotten one over him and that was bad. Several other upgraded Rebel frigates and some old Venators exited hyperspace a minute or so later Garros smiled at their luck.

“Ackbar is coming here for supplies?” Garros asked Vi’retess grinned “maybe, or maybe He’s looking for a partner in crime” Garros smiled “you’re serious?’ Vi’retess smiled ‘consider it a gift, of course you must come back do not get yourself killed” Garros laughed “and present you with an opportunity to get a new victim? Absolutely not” Vi’retess laughed before taking off “come on let’s welcome our friend” he said

Crimson Shield – same time

Hertz smiled a little at the anecdote that had the rest of his dinner guests laughing hysterically, Grand Moff Turhain had an interesting youth if half these stories were true, either way he was a consummate entertainer and truly enjoyed it. He wondered if things had been different would Turhain have been a politician or some great host in one of those orbital luxury pads on Coruscant it was truly amusing. But he had much on his mind chiefly the sheer amount of ships orbiting Shield, he was sure that these were xenocrops ships, they were all old and there was maybe one or possible two imperial class I ISD’s the rest were mostly Venators and Tectos backed up by close to a hundred Lucre hulks and then it donned on him.

The doors opened and Cronus entered as grim as he normally was the firm giant nodded courtly to Turhain who smiled, the two seemed to know each other. Turhain offered him some ale and then stood up looking out. ‘look at us” he said “over two million imperial technicians and engineers forging a fleet of prototypes in preparation for a war with an enemy within, now we’re nearly double that churning out vessels every month producing and sustaining the mighty imperial fleet and the Dominion hordes do not come, why is that?” he asked Cronus shrugged “arrogance perhaps or perhaps they seek to make to coruscant before our industrial might comes into place”

‘they aren’t worried about industry” Hertz said ‘they can’t be not the way they fight who mobilizes a fleet that large and then can maintain it that far away from supply lines and in another galaxy no less” “if they are truly from another galaxy’ contested Cronus ‘do you know of any power that can muster up a fleet that large? If one existed in the unknown regions they’d have made their presence known long ago”

Turhain nodded “we heard rumors for the last couple years now of a power in the unknown region rising, united various backwaters. “He said he wanted to say more but held his tongue Hertz eyed him curiously ‘Sir?”

He can’t tell you boys but I will” they all turned eying the fat giant Grand Admiral Thanagar that stood before them. Flanked to his left was General Jaxor himself and his Mandalorian second colonel Vindiz. Everyone stood in awe, three living legends walked into the room. Thanagar grinned and set one of his fat hands on Turhain’s shoulder that seemed to lurch in annoyance at the touch. “Two years ago all contact with the Chiss vanished” Every one frowned the Chiss were a severely isolationist species yet very strong. “One of our Grand Admirals who was running a covert mission in the region moved to examine why and we promptly lost contact with him as well as the entire sector he had conquered out there” Thanagar said then eyed them all “I hear you guys are the old mans successors?” he asked Hertz nodded “and you are Taragyn’s?” he asked Aryas who nodded, Thanagar eyed the exterminators and laughed he already knew their answer the grins on their faces said it all.

“The Dominion does come from another galaxy” Thanagar said “but I believe they are cut off from home and are operating here as an expeditionary fleet’ he said “Grand Admiral Guylos secretly believes that this war is serving an ulterior motive and he isn’t sure what” he said calmly that was news to everyone. Turning Thanagar eyed the stars “they’re out there somewhere beyond our reaches” he grinned ‘and only we know where they are” he laughed and turned back to them “I’m gonna be leading raids deep into Dominion territory behind supply lines, we’re gonna smash these murdering animals where it hurts, their clone facilities their allies, we’re going to bleed them hard” he said “we’re going to give Guylos enough time to unfuck imperial politics so he can lead an army of light to smash these demons” he yelled eying them ‘what say you? Join me?”

Aryas rose up “Sir the blood of Ord Mantell” he said “calls out for revenge count me in” Hertz rose up “for the old man and for the Resolute and for all our friends in the fleet ‘ he said “we will fight” Cronus nodded “where the young ones go I will go”

Turning Thanagar eyed the exterminators “We’re bringing the war home boys” he said “what do you say wanna join the party?” he asked more for posterity sake then anything. ‘Sir” Maniac said “you have your terms mixed up”

“Eh, what’s that boy?”

“This isn’t war Sir...this is pest control” Thanagar grinned grabbing a pitcher of ale and filling all of their cups, a silent toast was made and a warning.

Justice was coming to the Dominion

Garros is a good kid but he's out of his league with Vi’retess the mad preacher. I don't think you've introduced anyone who could come close to that magnificent bastard. Also is it me or does it seem like Ackbar is being set up?

well, there are two people can play on his level ..one hasn't even shown up in the story yet and you probably wont expect him at all but I've left allotta hints as to who one pretty loud. hopefully I'll surprise the hell out of you with the revelation and you'll like it

the second one..currently has his hands tied.

Ackbar I'm not sure on, he seems by all accounts clever enough to realize there's some type of advanced game being run..but not good enough to play on that level..but I'm not sure what do you think?

Akbar is indeed being set up can you guess in what sense?

new part up things are moving towards another space battle and fight..this time between Imperial forces and Rebels..lots of talking...

Thanagar acts awesome..and Vi'retess being frighteningly honest again

hope you guys enjoy

Some goddamn fool once said that flanks have got to be secure. Since then sonofabitches all over the globe have been guarding their flanks. I don't agree with that. My flanks are something for the enemy to worry about, not me. Before he finds out where my flanks are, I'll be cutting the bastard's throat. General George S Patton August first 1944 A.D.

The Xeno'ss forming the ranks of the gallant 201fst Infantry on the battlefields of the unknown regions…are writing a brilliant record of achievement in battle and I am proud indeed to have them in this command. I wish that we might have many more like them. Grand General Jaxor to the imperial news network

Allied Starbase Red Dawn – same time

Admiral Ackbar made his way along the corridor of the allied starbase looking around, he saw various rebel technicians working with the dominions race, several rebel colonels talking military doctrine with the gigantic bear like aliens while Jem’Hadar watched the discourse as attentive and cold as they always did. The Jem’Hadar made a cold tingle run up his spine, he wasn’t sure if it was because of their reptilian nature or the fact that they always seemed to regard everything as a learning experience for future battles. Like some primitive predator they craned their heads and watched with an odd interest “will this show me how to kill’ he wondered idly if a primitive part of his brain was to blame for that. As they moved along he thought back to the holo conference, he had to admit the old Vorta was very good, publically admitting to something that could potentially ruin them and then immediately turning it against the empire and using it as a propaganda tool. Ackbar kept going back to it, his declaration of war, and his debate with the dark lord even the way he spoke to fallen enemies to get them to surrender. Every action he took every speech was guided by that mind of his and he always tried to use words like ‘righteousness” always praising the founders talking about the path to unity and galactic order always talking about justice, he would always portray the emperor as some elite who used the lesser men and Ackbar realized perhaps too late that the old vorta was spreading a dogma a religion in the galaxy he was guiding things trying to manipulate things. Ackbar had begun to slowly send funds and resources to certain hidden locations to prepare for the inevitable if the force was merciful though he would be wrong. He very well could be and certainly he knew he would be in great trouble if he was ever caught.

He wondered now if Garros was under his control fully as the alliance heads thought or if he was still his own man. making his way towards the conference room, there stood Captain Garros and with him the old Vorta who smiled warmly at him Ackbar nodded ‘Vi’retess it is agreeable to see you again:” he said the old vorta smiled ‘it is always a pleasure to meet you Admiral Ackbar” he said “I have to say the Mon Calamari people are a fierce and determined race, the spirit of survival in your kind the desire for justice for freedom is truly admirable you will make the republic powerful and the Dominion will be strong just by our friendship alone’ he said “thank you” Ackbar said “but my people were not always warriors nor do we wish to remain as such for all time” Vi’retess nodded “Indeed, I do look forward to visiting your world” he said with a smile “perhaps when this war is over I can immigrate to your world ‘ he said Ackbar became cold at the comment “I thought the vorta live to serve” ‘and serve I will but I would much rather serve on a water world I do so love the ocean’ he said Ackbar blinked and his aid a human smiled “you only say that because you have never seen Coruscant up close never set foot on her majestic soil”

Vi’retess turned and smiled a narrow smile and said with a unsettling sincerity ‘oh believe me, my boy the day The Dominion can stand on Coruscant and usher in a new era of Galactic order with our republic brothers is a day I eagerly await”

Imperial starbase crimson shield – same time

Grand Admiral Thanagar sat watching the stars and the various vessels simply sitting and waiting and looked over at Turhain “how long until the Resolute is fully repaired?” he asked him ‘in six hours” Turhain said “I have taken the liberty of beginning the modifications to the storage bases and crew quarters are you sure this is wise?” he asked Thanagar thought about it, but the xenocorps needed an unconventional unit to lead them one made up of people who were going to look beyond the surface. He also knew that Guylos was right and for the empire to survive it had to drop the prejudice and embrace a galaxy diverse and strong. After all nationalism only had one demand, that you be a citizen of the nation, and that you are prepared to give your life defending it if needed. “Is it even legal?’ he asked Thanagar nodded ‘it’s an old precedent but one not removed from the legal codes” he said rising and walking towards the ale “get commander Aryas, colonel Cronus and Captain Hertz and commander Maniac” he said Turhain eyed his technician who nodded and took off. He disliked being ordered around on his own base and he knew that Thanagar knew this and did it on purpose; there was much to the fat Grand Admiral that Turhain hated with a passion, but there was also much he knew were qualities that would make him essential to the survival of the empire in this war. “Tell me’ he said ‘if we survive this where will you go when this is all over?” Thanagar grinned “I’ma go home and fuck my wife allot’ he said in his usual vulgar manner, Turhain flinched at the thought of that, it really wasn’t a pleasant mental picture though he knew she was younger than him prettier it was still cringe worthy “and after that?” Thanagar shrugged “probably go back to being a farmer that’s what I was before this army business, I got me two sons who do it now and we do pretty well” he said “so I’ll do that collect my pension and farm and drink myself under the table” he said ‘you?”

Turhain thought about it “there’s no going back for me my wife left me, my kids are thankful for my salary but that’s about it, I’m not even sure if they do more than pay lip service to the empire my eldest daughter is a teacher’ he thought about it “I’ll stay in imperial politics become a Grand Admiral I’ll see if your vision can last’ he said “a new empire” he said turning to leave to be the power behind a new order would be an interesting game to play if for any other reason then it distracted him from his own personal life.

As he left the others entered joined by General Jaxor and Grand Admiral Thanagar turned eying them all intensely “Aryas do you know what the 201st is?” Jaxor asked Aryas closed his eyes trying to recall ‘ah, it’s a militia made up of near humans non humans and civilians yes?” he asked Jaxor nodded ‘they’re out there now, on two Lucrehulk class ships an army made up of 75,000 soldiers, they have no leader because nobody wants to lead them’ Aryas nodded he understood the prejudice against the non humans he bought into it until Ord Mantell and the little ones many of them no human, little ones many now lost. “Sir I only ask that my comrades fight” he said ‘and I wont ask any one to do anything I wouldn’t” Jaxor nodded ‘Aryas since a colonel cannot command a legion I am promoting you to general I will add that Taragyn chose to appoint you to take his place in his final hour weighed on this choice, you will command the entire legion” he looked over at Cronus “you will serve as his second in command he isn’t experience but he’s got the heart and mind for fighting so teach him how to fight” he said Cronus nodded then eyed the younger commander and nodded “you stay with me sir” he said “you will learn or you will die either way all will be right” he said slapping the younger mans back. Thanagar looked out “that brings me to the matter of the fleet sitting outside it needs a command ship and it needs an elite squadron of fighters to lead the forces out there” he remarked ‘can I count on the exterminators?” he asked “do you even need to ask sir?” then he turned and eyed Hertz “the resolute will need a fleet if she is to remain an SSD’ he said calmly ‘I know that your crew has lost a father and a home. However, you have a new home and now you need a family to fill it with” he said

Hertz nodded “I will accept but the refuges the kids the specialist all who have helped keep the resolute alive the way here, none of them want to leave’ Thanagar nodded “given the nature of our mission you’ll both be seeing more of that sort” Hertz nodded Thanagar eyed him “much like Aryas you are getting papers I issuing you a promotion to Commodore ‘ he said ‘you are officially in charge of the 7th auxiliary fleet the xenocorps “ he said “and that means your body and soul belong to me’ he said “you follow my orders, if you think you can do a better job make the call and succeed if I think you were right I’ll buy ya a drink if I don’t yer gonna get a public wiping by a light whip’ he said Hertz flinched that was an old tradition but a scary one “alls I ask of those I command is that you brawl..That you fight and that you kill! Can you do that!” he shouted

“Yessir!!”

“Good now get yer ass off this station and onto the resolute we leave in two days make damn sure yer ready to leave by then I’ll explain our mission in detail when we get to “bastion” he said before walking off

Allied Starbase Red Dawn – same time

As Garros and Hassani took their seats along with the other rebel commanders going on this mission Vi’retess sat in the briefing room relaxed his hands settled neatly on his lap linked together. He watched Ackbar enter, the Mon Calamari carried himself with a weary and quiet dignity that made him appear as a wise and prudent leader. Akbar was not aggressive but he was on this mission it must be urgent he wondered if it had to do with that factory his spies had scouted early in the month. Vi’retess smiled as they stock piled and produced the white and began building up their forces again he had no problem allowing the rebellion to fight battles for him. Good for Moral good for the galaxy good for his masters ultimate goal of course.

“good evening, as you know the war has gone exactly the opposite of what Imperial tacticians have projected, in their haste and arrogance they provoked a battle with an aggressive and formidable enemy, they also made war with the Dominion” he said this got allot of laughs even Vi’retess smiled at that “they have in their desperation begun to turn to petty weapons of terror” he gestured to an image that showed now of a sector in the expansion region “Moff Xendor is a Grand Moff subservient to Admiral Martio Batch’ he said calmly ‘in this particular region they have been developing the lenses, and focusing technology that makes the Super laser one sees on Imperial Super Star Destroyers of major Sector Admirals you have also seen it on the death star” a hushed whisper came over the crowd at this ‘this station is producing equipment and parts for weapons that can smash continents kill millions, slaughter fleets and perhaps even to construct one day a new Death star” he began “I will lead a strike force to this system, our forces are going to destroy or cripple this station and destroy the surrounding shipyard which produces many imperial gunboats’

Garros nodded ‘if we succeed we can halt imperial progress on super weapons back for months we can cripple production of replacement vessels as well and buy us and our allies time to strike”

Ackbar nodded “a small strike team will enter the station and steal data we need to know just what they are building and the strength of their fleet in the sector” he said
“with respect Admiral Ackbar I would add something” Vi’retess said “we have believed for awhile now that the Empire has been reverse engineering some of our technology off the ruins of damaged or destroyed vessels, the final battles proved this to be so, if they are doing it they would likely be doing it at factories in sectors such as this yes?”

Ackbar considered it ‘it would be either Batch or Seras, yes thank you for providing us with this information” he said “this only reinforces our need to hasten, to break the empires ability to try and gain an advantage over us and to prevent another Alderan catastrophe” they all nodded “We leave in hours “ he said “I cannot stress the importance of this mission enough, we cannot fail” he paused and then eyed them all “we will not fail” he said “it is time for the Alliance to show our Dominion allies what the alliance navy is truly capable of” he said which elicited allot of cheers. Vi’retess turned to Garros ‘well that was unexpected of him” “I know” Garros said smiling ‘but he wasn’t insulting you or anything’ ‘oh I know indeed it was very devious of him to inspire such friendly competition’ he said grinning “who would have thought another rebel leader capable of being a politician” he chuckled Garros grinned “I’m just glad I get to fight again”

Can't wait for either Thanagar or Ackbar's barbecues to hit the grill, sounds like they are going to be some serious fireworks in store.

I don't know, Tarkin might have been able too if he was still breathing, Thrawn of course would be his equal, maybe Lando? Not a military mind but he's smart and can think on his feet. Maybe the Emperor back in his prime cira ROTS.

Well my first guess was for one of the experimental parts to "fail" in a crucial moment making it quick, clean and creating a mayrter Vi'retess could then turn around and use. Now it appears he's been set up to look like a traitor with him stockpiling resources and the like.

it should be good I've been implying for a long time Guylos was a very dangerous enemy across the battlefield...and Ackbar was good enough to give Thrawn problems

so I'm gonna try and do it justice

Lando? that's awesome..was this ever explored in the EU?

that's not something you should overrule and neither is the other thing..

.naw I'm taking a misfit from the Dominion wars and TNG and turning him into a complete monster that's gonna rival Vi'retess

and if Thrawn does come they'll be partners

and another talkie from my end I am hoping you aren't dreadfully bored but rest assured that action will come soon.

some revelations and lots of intrigue a magnificent bastard from the Eu makes his appearance and Guylos gains a new ally? or enemy? unknowns and manipulation everywhere

hope you guys like

"subterfuge and intelligence and intrigue are our tools and we have all been playing this game with nation states for almost two centuries now, but times are changing no more are we enemies and we find ourselves being told we are obsolete, that the day man spies on man are over, that no more will we be needed to put up satellite states in proxie wars over jungle or desert, that long gone is the era when our work mattered the universe is a friendly place, if Mars and Alpha Centauri want independence let them have it without a knife in the back: While all this maybe true it is true in a slanted respect: long gone is the era where we would face each other in the shadows and fighting for one nation or ideal over another, where entire nations were our chess sets. We have been thrust a new level of the old game one where the entire universe is our battlefield and all things are our foes. Our new mission must be to protect mankind and this new Federation and we must be extra careful brothers for the game of thrones is now played with entire planets..and soon one day it will be played on an even grander field yet..where entire galaxies are merely pieces which we must play in the shadows: - unknown believed to be the speech made upon the founding of Section 31

Frontier of the Andromeda Galaxy

The Federation fleet stopped now as they were about to cross the great void between galaxies and enter a new one, one that had only one other group of humans ever set foot on. The Sarmiento took the lead drifting towards the void and stopping, her hull glowing blue and white as her crew quarter lights seemed to be the only thing giving off any visible light.

The Yamamoto and Typhon flanked her; other vessels behind them, Wildstar and his excelsior cruised past leading the Defiant’s which dumped a pay load of replicated pyrotechnics which went off. The mood around the fleet was very somber and grim, on the Yamamoto especially for they had been the ones to bring the founder on board.

In the Yamamoto Commander Simon Tarses sat back his face mulling over the events as they played out earlier. – keep your mouth shut and forget what you just heard- the order was disturbing to say the least, the fact that he trusted John Rainbird as did everyone else in command here made it harder for him to swallow. He had all but said in conversation with Serita and Wildstar that he had suspected Dartanis of using the situation to do the unthinkable and. He looked off obviously making an investigation of it on an s31 run mission would end badly for him but he had to do something. Had Rainbird begun running his own investigation? Why was he cut out?

“Sir” his second in command addressed him he rose up eying her, the Sarmiento would be under quarantine until they could reach the base and be scanned in far greater detail then could be done in the fleet. But his presence would be required via hologram all the same.

The Vulcan Salaya stood behind Captain Dartanis, she had her arm in a sling and her eye was still grayish and swollen, Serita’s holographic form appeared and she stood protectively next to the higher ranking Vulcan women. Simon would have to go to the rumor machine later and find out exactly what was up with those two and if he had to let any warnings be said. Restiv appeared next fat and enraged but containing that rage with impressive discipline for a Telarite, two Andorian security officers began playing some type of flute which went in with amazing grace being sung by the engineers. Several moments passed before Captain Dartanis walked forward.

Seventy five Coffins were arrayed in columns each one ten feet apart from the other at the forefront of the columns one coffin stood alone leading the macabre phalanx he began. “all of our cultures have the sea in common” he said “how our yearning to explore pushed us to make larger faster vessels that used the winds and waters to connect land masses together, from then we grew restless and desired motion and so we sought out the stars and brought worlds together” he eyed them all “these men were taking the bravest steps one could take they were all about to bring galaxies together” he said softly “Carmincita Ibanez” she said touching one Coffin “born on a colony in the Gamma Quadrant her ancestors were from the Philippines” he said “many times I was told half the security and engineering crew would fight for her affections” he said “but her pretty heart belonged to another” he said looking at the coffin directly across from her “Tenan Russ was half Vulcan and forty years older than her though you can never tell by looking with races like ours” he laughed then sighed “Tenan was a maquis who quit Starfleet to fight for what he believed in, The Dominion massacred his wife and children when they wiped out what remained of them. He served aboard the voyager as a conscript of Admiral Janeway along with the rest of the maquis sect” pausing “he left Starfleet again and drifted from job to job before finally finding himself in prison again, however Russ was a very skilled marksmen and fighter and knew cryptography better than anyone and I pardoned him and brought him along, damaged as he was Carmen forged a bond and he was slowly building his life back up and moving on” he said “much to the dismay of all her would be suitors of course” which earned a row of sad, nostalgic laughter. “They died in each others arms” he said “murdered by an enemy who refused to let go of the past, who could not control his hatred” he said softly looking around

“many of you are like him, riff raff and the like said to be undesirable” he added “others are specialists and wide eyed academy cadets many of you are on your first mission others have served for years” he said setting his arm around the holographic shoulder of John Rainbird before eying them all “I chose this mix of the two because of the historical precedent it was crews such as this that once traversed the oceans for the first time and settled the first colonies in your native solar systems with snail paced sleeper ships” he said calmly “who broke warp barriers and settled new solar systems and now who will venture into an entirely new corner of the universe” he said before looking around him “but you have all exceeded my expectations for when this Changeling attacked you all fought as one family” he said “and many died as one” he reached out and touched the coffin of the first officer “men like our old man” he said “the heart and soul of my ship who’s alcoholism got him dismissed from the federation after the Dominion war who floundered around the Ferengi Alliance as a pilot for years before returning to us” he looked around “he got over his issues for all of you and gave his life so that this ship could live” he walked towards the rest of the crew hundreds stood in the Sarmientos massive shuttle bay “and by his side fell two of the straight laced Starfleet officers young ones the oldest twenty two” he said “who feared him and worried that he’d burry their career for not living up to his strict standards only to find in the end he was as proud of them as a father is of his son on his first day out in the real world” he said “his loss is felt above all” he walked now towards the group and picked up a small pad

“in the name of the USS Sarmiento, in the name of her crew and the fleet she leads this, large extended family our brothers and sisters of the stars who now ride with us to this new world I consign you all to the stars..May you find peace and may you never forget us for we will never forget you” he said before pressing a button on the pad, a shield enveloped the coffins and then suddenly a bright white fire which burned for a full fifteen minutes before the remaining ashes were transported into space

Simon Tarses sat back in his seat once the ceremony was over watching the Sarmiento prepare to enter slipstream, the man seemed to take the loss personal and the speech was great but Al-Aurians were good at pulling the heart strings the question was, still open what really happened? And just who was leading them in this mission.

]Hyperspace en route to Bastion

Grand Admiral Thanagar stalked alongside a storm trooper commander Pyrex was the name? Beside him walked Private Astor and next to him Commodore Hertz “and it’s under guard? “ “Constantly sir and no rotation changes away from the cell, we’ve got our best force fields surrounding it as well ““can it bypass the force fields?” Thanagar asked “unknown sir but if it does escape I have several proton missiles rigged to detonate the hyperspace drive and scatter us across the cosmos “he said Thanagar nodded “excellent” he said though Astor flinched over the thought of being blasted to a million pieces while flying through space. “Why didn’t you tell Turhain?” he asked “because” Hertz said “I don’t know whether this thing is telling the truth or not and if it is it’ll be of more use to you” he said Thanagar nodded that was a smart move then. Altruistic the boy wasn’t interested in bargaining tools for rank he just wanted to serve the ideal the resolute had come to represent. As Thanagar came to the brig and walked towards the cell he saw something he didn’t inspect to see. It was tall and lanky very beige and earth colored very simple, it was sitting reading some imperial news articles on a little holopad that it had created in his arm laughing “Ponzy is in so much trouble” he said Thanagar chuckled it was reading comic serials? Really? It wasn’t worried at all no fear or any tension just sitting there lazily without a care in the world and a confidence. “let the force field down boys” “Grand Admiral I beg your pardon but” “Hertz I aint one to repeat myself” he said “sides he can break out of this cell whenever he damn well pleases and do whatever he wants” he said “but hasn’t” he added The founder eyed him “oh very perceptive, our intelligence sector was right about you” he said “you are low born and uneducated but have the cunning of a predator alright” “yer flatter’n me” he said “since ya know who I am how about telling me yer name?”

“Well, I don’t have one but you can call me Kal if you’d like” he said eying him “you were expecting more?” “From a god? Yeah I was” “and why does a god need to be ostentatious? Is it enough merely that we are” “Kal” asked “fer real gods? I’d think so but for you? Your type needs a little recognition ya can’t function without proving how superior you are to the cosmos” he said Kal laughed “you think my people are narcissistic like that?” he asked, Thanagar frowned “oh right different human culture” he said to which he grinned at Thanagars gaping stare “arrogant would be the word a need to feel that way you’re absolutely right resentment is fueling this war “he said

“And there’s allot of us who want peace with your people” “the empire?” “No Grand Admiral the human race, in this galaxy and in every other.”

Quelii Oversector – two hours later

Grand Admiral Lucien Tyrell watched as his personal shuttle exited hyperspace along with several others who had come from Endor, near him sat Gilad Pellaeon who was calm and reflective as usual which made the drug addled grand Admiral very annoyed. “Why did Zsinj call us all here?” Tyrell asked “your too calm to not be in the know” he spat “honestly sir I have no clue” he had suspected it and shared his views with Grand Admiral Guylos earlier who had encouraged him to go and seek out the conspiracy. They came toward a massive SSD which was being refitted by hundreds of technicians and freighters “the Brawl” Tyrell said he had wanted that ship but it was given to a mere Admiral over him a fact which made him very angry. They all headed for the vessel

Pellaeon walked with the unstable GA along the corridors on the inside being joined by various other Commanders and Captains he recognized as well as Admirals and one Grand Moff he did not. Zsinj was a rogue if he ever saw one, the man came up with the guile of a gang boss and gave the impression he was better suited leading a Hutt Cartel then an imperial fleet or ruling an oversector. They entered a very lavish meeting room, food was out and various forms of drink and drugs were made available, behind them was a tapestry recently made likely, and it was one of the entire galaxies mapping out the current events. Dominion in purple their territory now incredibly vast, with a red line circling it at slim with various red dots some large some small all over the purple. Republic territory he thought and then he eyed imperial turf and off to the side near the edge of their controlled territory in the outer rim territories was a series of territories divided he also noticed their own personal jurisdictions outlined with numerous planets with various numbers shown, designations he wondered what that meant then he realized it was a throw back to the era of exploration. Had he found new worlds? How?

Zsinj entered now fat and poisoned powerful looking; Tyrell shifted in his seat after sniffing a line of spice, the Grand Admirals overt drugging disgusted Gilad. “One of the biggest problems facing our expansion is the limitations of hyperspace and our sensors “ he said “there are beyond hyperlanes hundreds of worlds unspoiled ready for colonization or strip mining” he grinned “never mind the patents and prophets from a monopoly on such technology could create a new era of galactic prosperity and a new aristocracy” he said

“That’s all well and nice, very informative but why were we called here?” one asked Zsinj smirked and gestured to his aids who walked towards a rear door, a six storm troopers walked out and set various ornately carved wood boxes with gold in the carvings. Gilad opened his and his eyes widened “Aurodium?” he asked shocked he looked down at the ingots each one newly laid down newly fabricated, Tyrell looked like he was going to have a heart attack when he saw it, “Aurodium, gold and various gem stones” Zsinj said “equal to about ten years worth of pay to an Imperial grand Admiral” he said “consider it a present” Zsinj said “these are worlds” he said gesturing to the maps “within your territories and without that are full of all the valued resources the galaxy holds along with certain patents to exotic technology” he said “these are all things my associates will give to you” he said “in exchange for a concession”

There was of course a price naturally “and what would that be” Gilad asked, which was a question really Tyrell should have asked “oh who cares I accept” Tyrell said almost hysterical. Gilad eyed Zsinj coldly “well?”

Zsinj smiled “The Dominion is going to find Endor and launch a massive assault on the super weapon” all of them had been selected because they had all been ordered to Endor and all shot up eying the man coldly just what was he asking? “the will succeed” he said in a matter of fact tone “when that happens when the invasion comes do as little fighting as possible order your trusted forces to do the same and when the station falls do nothing” he said

“Nothing?” Tyrell asked several officers rose up Gilad among them “you think we’ll sell the emperor out to the dominion for riches? You pimp” one spat Zsinj laughed “No I think when the dust settles and the Grand Admirals free of the emperors stupidity can counter attack this galaxy will be divided between the Dominion and the Republic and an imperial remnant a three way stalemate” he said “my concern is to that remnant and her GA’s “ he said “to maintain the stalemate and weaken the enemy new weapons and the like will be provided to keep us a head of the curb we can turn the new order into the economic power of the stars”

“And your associates want this out of the goodness of their heart why? Gilad asked, “I invited you here Pellaeon “ Tyrell snapped “shut your mouth and be grateful you have as much as you do” “actually I asked him to come here” Zsinj corrected “and he makes a good point, now because the Dominion is an enemy of my associates the enemy of my enemy is my friend” he said they all calmed down “I see” Tyrell said they all looked down “consider my offer, your own personal fiefdoms behind the empires back the chance to be behind the rise of a great power and all I ask is you do nothing”

Silence reigned. Guylos was planning a move against the emperor and he realized if he could move himself into this cartel he could use them to support his play or better yet remove him from the horrible plot that would result in the emperor’s death and still aid him when he brought the one true empire about. “I accept” one by one the others conceded each selling out their great lord for fortune and political power, each one burying themselves in food and drink drowning out how it made what little conscience they had left cringe at the thought of betraying the beneficent Emperor.

All but Pellaeon, as they all began to leave Zsinj stopped him “actually I will provide transport to Endor for you” he said “huh this was supposed to be secret “ he watched Tyrell drunken and drugged stumble into the shuttle and order the pilot to leave completely laughing at him as he did so. “he thinks he’s going to get you in trouble for running out don’t worry he wont” Zsinj said “I need you to stop by Grand Admiral Guylos and present him with something before you go back to Endor” he said Gilad frowned “I don’t know what your talking about” Zsinj smiled “come now you think I wouldn’t realize he suspected me of treason? He’s clever but he is a naïve idealist a boy scout” he said though he wording was one he had never heard before he understood what Zsinj was trying to convey in the context “and you all stick together thus he brought you along” he grinned “really you should leave dirty conspiracy work to us scoundrels” he said but the entire time he gave no hint of threat “my associates want him on our side” he said “for some reason “ “Guylos wont sell out the ideas of the empire and even with your new riches you’d have to work pretty hard to produce a bribe he’d consider anything but loose change”

“while that’s certainly true” he said watching as a shuttle was loaded with much large cases “rare ale and gems and all of those are loaded with Aurodium” “okay” Gilad admitted “maybe you don’t need to work as hard as I thought” he said Zsinj laughed as they walked “now then, don’t think I’m not ambitious I want to be a Grand Admiral as soon as a post opens and I know you’ll become one eventually I want a seat and consider that my purchasing it’ Gilad frowned he himself wasn’t sure if he would ever get a promotion to that austere a rank but he knew Zsinj would as uncouth and thug like as he was he was a very dangerous tactician and shrewd politician “no I needed their support for this to move forward since they make up key parts of Endors defense but what I really need is your Grand Admirals faction on board with this” he said Gilad cursed just how much did this bastard know? “Tell me” he said “but I doubt you will be able to convince him of anything” he said Zsinj nodded and gestured to one of the suits “enter that room” he said “and talk to my associates in person let them convince you” he said he said standing outside not entering

Gilad was an old veteran and cautious he steeled himself and walked forward hand on his blaster as the doors opened. The Room was dark incense burned all around him, he heard chanting in a language that seemed rough and guttural, around him he saw symbols that seemed to be of some noble house or another, the candles burned of fat, and they were crafted in an ancient way. As he entered more he saw an animal native to one of the planets skinned and roasting on a spit, torches lit the room. Gilad focused on the people chanting, clad in armor that looked like it came out of an old ancient Jedi holo epic and with some type of mask that covered their faces. He squinted the must in the room was strong and the incense burning from the candles made his eyes water. He focused on the end of the room and looked, he saw a very tall figure he had to be two meters tall if not more, he was fat reminding him of GA Thanagar a bit, his body was covered in furs elegant and long cape that had furs at the color, his right hand and arm was mechanical and the fingers seemed talon like, a sheathed sword was in it’s grasp broad and long looking like some ancient force sword. Moving up he saw auburn skin and a thick main of hair that was loose around him as well as an impressive beard. Gilad eyed him intently matching the giants gaze the alien smiled and in a jovial and surprisingly articulate voice for someone who looked so barbaric he blurted out in basic “ah good! You’re a warrior!”

Ah plotting, backstabbing, dupliticious characters. It is good! But who is the mysterious stranger? Little Alexander? Turned in a badarse?

Also Thanagar, don't listen to the changling! Kill it! It speaks only lies and evil! :)

new update sorta part two of the above..Im'pec uses the truth as a "it's a lie" story but one that sows the seeds of some intrigue..Guylos heads to his fateful clash with the Mon Calamari Admiral and John Rainbird shows the S31 fleet why he's second in command in what I hope is an awesome scene.

Battles and imperial news network coming

"fire tempers more than just steel" Darth Vader speaking from personal experience "memories of the old order" by Ambassador Jaina solo

Gilad Pellaeon stood gazing intently at the figure after he said that. He seemed relieved as though dealing with the usual imperial officers grated him and taxed him, and he wondered if this was so why throw in with someone as disreputable and ambitious as Zsinj? “I am” Gilad answered “but because my galaxy needs me to be and nothing more” he said which in turn made the giant laugh hardily “yes, yes I can see that about you, you have the eyes of someone who has seen much bloodshed and is in doubt of the cause of it” he said which surprised Gilad he seemed to be able to read him very well which caused him to stiffen and guard himself. “yes well if you can see that about me approaching me to seek the leader of whatever faction you may imagine I speak for by allying yourself with such men is not the best way to convince me of anything” more laughter followed “that Zsinj is a Jackal and that petaQ Tyrell in my culture it is customary to behead officers that are so pathetically inept” he said

Gilad had to stifle a snicker at that; he had to admit he wished their cultures shared that. “but they serve a purpose to create a flow of technology that will allow you to fend off the Dominion or at least keep them from going too far into imperial territory “he said “but your purpose here is different” he said “I represent a powerful noble house within the Klingon Empire one which wishes to see the Dominion checked here, it’s resources diverted as it is to this galaxy so far away” he said “and for it to be continued “he said

Gilad nodded a proxy war? He wanted the empire to be a damn buffer state? “You are at war with the Dominion?’’ “Once decades ago we were part of an alliance that defeated the Dominion” he said Gilad blinked ‘then why do you need a buffer zone against them? Why must you use my people as fodder to divert them?” he asked sternly the giant smiled “ah you are understandably upset, well it is simple when we defeated them we only drove them from our section of the home galaxy” he said “they retained their territory...neither side of the war was able to progress much father, and at the time we had another concern”

“Such as?” Gilad asked “The Borg” he said “an enemy far more powerful than the Dominion an army of cyborg vermin made out of the fallen and conquered” he spat “mechanized demons that plagued out our home galaxy like an infestation of vermin” he roared. Gilad didn’t like this the Dominion was the most powerful force he had ever seen and yet this strange alien was telling a story about some other force far more powerful? He hoped it was a Dominion trap “These Borg on top of the high casualties we sustained driving them away made continued war impossible “ he said “ a five way balance was created” he said “then twenty years everything changed”

“Like what?” “The Borg went extinct leaving a vast cosmic grave yard in their wake, and another power who was during the an ally their sun exploded destroying their capital in the chaos my people invaded foolishly which caused a balance of power to fall apart” he said Gilad nodded of course..Another interstellar war averted because of a much larger threat and when that was neutralized it was back to a cold war until one side or in this case two sides weakened and the remaining two began taking up the opportunity to make their moves. “So I take it the Galaxy is now divided between your people and the Dominion? “He asked curiously. “no between the Dominion and ourselves and a third power” “and who would they be” “why the people who made the Borg extinct of course” Gilad blanched the Dominions home territory sounded more and more like a nightmarish galaxy full of powerful monsters who swept away entire nations on a whim. “We are currently fighting these enemies on many fronts and we lost site of the Dominion, they seek something in your galaxy in your deep core we believe, something that could forever change the tide of the war and place this galaxy and many others under eternal Dominion control” he said

Gilad frowned this had to be some type of elaborate trap “and our actions against the Dominion not only deny them whatever this is they are seeking while weakening the home territories?” he asked “in a sense yes” he said “I don’t believe this charade for a second” he said the giant nodded “good” he said “I mean maybe if not for this unknown mysterious whatever they are searching for and just the buffer state idea would have been realistic but come on? Ancient artifacts? I’ve seen better in holo epics” The Klingon grinned “believe me the premise is absurd and I laughed many times thinking of how to explain it all and not look the fool for it” he said “even if this is true” Gilad said “what makes you think we wouldn’t find whatever this thing is and turn it on you’; the giant laughed loudly “do your scientists understand Dominion technology?” he asked “only that it’s radical and too unstable but we’ve reverse engineered some of the more sane technologies” “ah but do they understand the science behind it” he asked “they claim so” Gilad said “but I get the impression they barely understand even the most basics of it”

The Klingon warrior nodded “exactly my point believe me you are not in a position to be a threat to us or our other enemy no matter what we do to you now no matter what we give and besides” he grinned “you already have the thing I’m assuming” he said “and you’ve made nothing impressive of it” he said Gilad frowned at that and glared “and just what makes you think we have anything that could be of value to the Dominion beyond resources?’ he snapped in a defensive tone. He tried to dismiss all this as a lie but the more time he spent at Endor guarding the second death star the more it made his story believable. Whatever Palpatine was building was so much more than the first death star and so radical and so different that he honestly wondered if they had found something and not shared it with the rest of the fleet.

The Klingon smiled as if pleased by his reaction “because the design of the super laser on the death star and many of the smaller ones on the Super Star Destroyers are based off rudimentary and very simple understanding of what we call a proto matter wave generator “he said and Gilad once again glared, “oh not impressive a mobile planetary siege platform that can transport entire legions and blow up planets?”

The giant smirked “I can do the same thing with my command Cruiser and it’s not even the size of a super star destroyer believe me...the Dominion are behind us both but they make up for it with their numbers and industry and if they succeed in this galaxy it will be the doom of all creation” he said simply

Gilad stepped back and began thinking on it; Endor was a bargaining chip he could use for later this one didn’t know everything but his comments did disturb him the thought of the Dominion gaining any type of technology that could make them god like was terrifying “and in return for providing us with the means to damage and weaken the Dominion no doubt you want whatever it is you think the Emperor is holding out on us all?”

The man smirked “it is said the Klingon people killed their gods when they became more trouble than they were worth” he said “we would do it a second time” he said Gilad blinked was he serious? Did he really expect him to believe that? “you’re going to say you’d rather destroy unlimited power than receive it” “absolutely the Klingon people will win cosmic Dominion the right way we will not grave rob” he grinned “besides where would the fun be in a million easy battles”

Oh great, he thought they were insane. But simple and easy to understand he saw before him an ambitious creature one who did hunger for power but one who wouldn’t murder and butcher for it and was okay with earning it. They did want to be top dogs of the stars and he did see in him a streak of opportunistic greed but he didn’t seem willing to risk becoming drunk off power or bath the stars in blood for it. In the academy they did hypothetical’s what if you were caught in deep space and found yourself the only representative of the Republic (now Empire) if you had to speak for the whole..What type of decision would you make? Could you even make one? One wrong word and you could plunge the galaxy into war or make eternal friends if you were lucky. He sighed and then made the choice “I am no politician and I cannot promise you he won’t order me to lead a fleet back here and blast this place into rubble but I will pass it along” he said the Klingon nodded and extended his metallic hand “I am General Im’pec of house Rozhenko “he said “Captain Gilad Pellaeon “he answered shaking his metallic hand

………………
Hyperspace

Grand Admiral Octavian grant stood watching the endless vortex of hyperspace he sipped some wine and turned back eying Grand Admiral Guylos who looked bored out of his mind ‘your getting a Super Star Destroyer and you look as though the imperial inquisitor will be torturing you soon?” he asked with an amused grin Guylos eyed him and shook his head “I hate these inspections and I know Batch does too with any luck this will be short I can just get my ship and we can return to the war room” he said looking out as hyperspace zipped by both men nodded “and of the possibility of a rebel attack?” he asked Guylos thought about it intelligence had been leaked to them of a possible rebel attack, he thought about it and wondered. The Dominion was likely exhausted and had to consolidate its holdings his little message likely reached them about Endor soon and thus would be building up a large attack fleet for that purpose. The Rebellion could be acting openly now and it would be a good chance to test out the fleet, if they were still a threat or not.

“I haven’t lead direct command in awhile if the raid happens keep my presence a secret as long as possible ““you sure you don’t want me to handle this? Your hands shouldn’t get dirty now that you are leading everything” he said Guylos nodded “but I can’t let myself go or become dull” he said “no I’ll handle this” he said
“Has Pellaeon made contact yet?” “He has” Guylos answered “we’ll know soon enough” he said both of them had long suspected the unusual but slow growth of wealth in Admiral Zsinj’s over sector had been the result of his collaboration with an enemy power. They had long suspected the rebellion though wondered what if any intelligence he could supply unless he had connections deeper than anyone realized. Yavin would not be entirely his fault, then the Dominion came and Grant had believed rogue Admiral had sold out to the Dominion, and it would explain allot regarding how fast they could move and expand inside imperial territory, meshed with how long they seemed to have been here. But Guylos believed differently he figured it would be something else.

They’d know soon enough.

Le Gentil Dwarf Galaxy – two hours later

Ensign Gracie hopped through the air dodging phaser fire as he did so landing near a bridge, which he quickly slid under to provide cover fire for the rest of his unit to fall back towards the old mission. Gracie had to admit the new phase riffles were remarkable. The handling was more traditional and felt like an old Terran gun but it backed a powerful punch that could cut loose with everything from phasers to Romulan style disruptors to poloron weaponry there was even a small replicator that allowed for limited replication of various kinetic rounds.

Simply put it was a weapon designed to enter the unknown find new life and murder the crap out of it in a myriad of different ways. Right now he switched to armor piercing slugs fired out with a strong EM like pull it launched through the air and tore apart one of the on coming aliens splattering him all over, his comrades who panicked and fell back. “Reyes status?” he asked “Ryak down and squad four down” she said “damn” Gracie mumbled, Watkins and Jenson took up point a few meters in front of them and laid down fire on the scattered aliens killing them all. Rising up every one cheered “bad guys down”

“oh how morbid of you all” the voice came from Derek Wildstar who walked into beside Simon Tarses the two of them calm “your comrades lie dead around you and you cheer?” “Computer freeze program” Tarses said

“Yeah but that’s mostly because that skull alien got the drop on Burt” Mokar a young Andorian said standing up from his spot among the “dead” another rose up as well he was tall gaunt with spikes sticking out of his cheek “indeed “

“that’s because your CQC skills are laughable “ Tarses said in as blunt a fashion as he could muster “and I mean it even with months of training you don’t spar on your own and it’s pathetic” “lots of hours shooting though” Wildstar said

“To be fair sir” Gracie said “who uses hand to hand and close quarters fighting in this day and age? I mean besides the klingons and I hear the standard tactic is to gun them down before they get into melee”

“And what if you can’t shoot an enemy?” everyone turned eying Captain Rainbird who walked out from a hiding place, he had an old bowie knife on his hilt and a tomahawk which he was told was a heirloom passed down from generation to generation in his family. The heavily scarred apache eyed them all “technology fails you on the field of battle that is a reality any sentient being has encountered through out the history of thousands of worlds, no matter how advanced technology fails and when it does it’s the mind and body that can save you”

“We’ve got some of the most advanced weapons in the galaxy sir I am sure my phase rifle wont fail me right off the bat and besides “he said “how what type of enemy rushes an armed opponent any way?” he asked ushering in a laugh from everyone Rainbird eyed him coldly and then started walking until; he was close to a hundred paces away from Gracie “computer safeties off” he ordered and then eyed the boy who seemed to become nervous

“If I was a Jem’Hadar and we were amidst the chaos of battle could you kill me before I ran over to you and took your head off?” he asked

“I don’t know sir” he said “oh, we’re going to find out” Rainbird said the ensign blanched “sir but what if I hit you?” “then I’m wrong” he said “now I’m ordering you take me out” he snapped the boy stumbled and stuttered clutching his weapon “sir” “come on I’ve just killed two of your friends your wasting time” “sir I ‘ Rainbird pulled his blade “boom I just killed Captain Tarses people are dying because of your stupid hesitation take me out” he yelled hesitantly he opened fire Rainbird took off towards him with his blade the boys panic increased ten fold and he began firing now

Simon Tarses new John Rainbird had to be close to eighty years old if not older having served aboard the stargazer with Picard. But he was never more terrified of the old Indian sage then he was now, he couldn’t see the take down even with his own training and combat experience, he just couldn’t see it. All he heard was the sound a blade made when it crashed into flesh and bone then the slicing noise a knife made as it tore open muscle. A howl of agony filled the holodeck and he heard commander Wildstar call in a medical emergency.

John Rainbird had brought that old ax into the boy’s calf and nearly cut his leg off below the knee, the knife severed the tendons in the wrist and arm gripping the rifle and with a powerful jerk on the tomahawk he threw the boy down hard and shattered his bones. If this injury had occurred when Tarses was Gracie’s age he was sure he would have spent at least two days off his feet, but with modern medical tech he would be ready to resume his nightshift duties this evening. That still didn’t change the viciousness of the old Captains actions and now he knew why The Cardassian legions feared him so much during the wars, why the Jem’Hadar respected him during the Dominion war and why now the Klingons respect him, and it lent credence to that story about the Siege of Cardassia he had always heard about.

Rainbird rose up and eyed them all “I am absolutely disgusted” he snapped “men have been killed already on this mission and you are loafing around discussing POLICY?” he yelled “I love you all as my own children but I cannot have you guys enter this new frontier as the fleet captain calls it unprepared!” he snapped “from now on you will spend a minimum of two hours working on your CQC skills when off duty and we’ll be doing double training time for the next three months understand” he asked they all nodded “we’re sorry sir” he nodded “your all good boys but you have allot to learn before you become men, before you can be my men my warriors my explorers” he said kneeling down “and you?” he asked “how are you” “fine sir just slipped is all” he said Rainbird smiled they really were good boys “anything working?” “Think my left arm is sir” he said “good” Rainbird said “sir request permission to shoot you again” he asked which got everyone to laugh.

Rainbird helped him up; despite the extreme pain he was doing his best to be stoic when the pretty nurses came.

Wildstar smirked “was Jean Luc ever like that?” He asked Tarses who thought about it “no “he said I wish he beat us up, Picard and his lectures did more damage to more up and coming Ensigns then a thousand battles” he said nodding and he realized

Rainbird really was a pussy cat compared to the French Captain and he felt himself glad he was not Gracie and Ambassador Picard wasn’t here verbally destroying the poor boys soul.

“That bad huh? “ Wildstar asked with a smirk “yup he got off easy, we all did”

Phanous - same time

High General Miraz stood by the transporter bay as he waited, a detachment of new Jem’Hadar flanked him their faces grim and resolute, they had watched the battles with interest, watched how hundreds of thousands of their brethren had died to save white and take the burden off the rest of them. Their brother’s sacrifice had made the rest strong and they died heroes true Jem’Hadar ordered to die and fighting along side their gods who wrought glorious and wondrous carnage upon this new galaxy.

The energy swirl of a matter transport occurred and the old wiry snake like visage of Vi’retess could be seen as it came through the matter transport. The ancient vorta eyed them all and walked forward “ah Miraz “he said “you look better a new grown?” he asked the gigantic bear like alien. He nodded the battles of the mid rim had been glorious and his people once again had led vast armies of Jem’Hadar in glorious battles. Miraz had wielded his mighty spear and killed two Imperial generals in personal combat as well as scores of Storm troopers clones or other wise and he was quickly gaining a reputation in battle as a ferocious and dangerous ground leader and a priority target. Vi’retess was glad for it with every movement and every battle he was wearing down their moral and zealous warriors like these natural born fools who threw their lives away foolishly with such brutal dedication that they inspired spirit crushing terror and served the founders well. The giant took the lead ushering the ancient vorta along, “the new facilities are moving as planned we should be capable of producing enough ketracel white to assault Endor” he said “excellent and Leviathan” he asked “that is seventy nine percent complete” he told him Vi’retess frowned “not going to meet my deadline?” he asked tersely Miraz shook his head ruefully “no but if we are able to utilize the proto matter warheads to create the right materials I could have it done before the time table is over”

Vi’retess shook his head “the sheer cost of producing proto matter precludes my authorizing them beyond emergencies” he said much to his dismay Malastare became such an emergency “tell me what is the problem?” “The technology mixing Federation, Borg and Dominion plus the singularities our technicians are very much annoyed” he said ‘and constantly having to go back and reconfigure systems we almost destroyed the system last week” Vi’retess quirked an eye brow and nodded he could relent of the project was truly that ambitious it just meant more time relying on Phanous and Kairoptera and the taken mid rim worlds. It would be an annoyance but that time if they were lucky.

“How goes the Ancient ones quest?” Miraz asked “as difficult one would expect a quest for a god to be” Vi’retess said as they walked. Miraz nodded “if the Ancient one believes it is here he will find it” he said, Vi’retess nodded “and when it does I will burn the human stain from the cosmos” he said calmly. Miraz shuddered a little at the ease of which the ancient Vorta declared it. He had fought along side Vi’retess for centuries and nothing scared him more than the old Vorta. Failing the founders aside there was nothing that terrified him more than the mind of that old devil. Now he wondered in the name of the Ancient one wielding incredible cosmic power, Vi’retess would lead a glorious universal crusade in the name of the order and in his mind he pictured a vast ocean of purple as space itself was covered by the power of the Dominion and all reality became subject to the will of the Ancient one most serene and oldest of founders: And his demented pope

For a brief instant he contemplates killing him now and running to the Federation if he could manage. To warn them of what was coming then the old Vorta looked into his eyes and his shadow seemed to shift some and Miraz banished the thoughts from his mind. There was no way he could ever try and get one over the old monster. He led Vi’retess out to the balcony and he looked down watching it. A smile crossed the ancient Vorta’s features “what is this?” he asked Miraz smiled his fangs gnashing as he did so “an alternative to the expense of maintaining an all Jem’Hadar army “he said simply Vi’retess smiled pleased with the work

Thousands of natives near humans non humans and humans all training with thousands of Jem’Hadar as Vorta and more of Miraz’s people issued orders and trained them “this can bring us up to twenty percent of our former strength and should buy us time to get those smaller facilities online”

“Excellent” he said “from the ashes of disappointment rises pride” he said eying him “we serve the living gods” Miraz said “yes, we do” he said

“Victory is life your holiness” Miraz said
“So say the founders the living gods of order”

“Much order is needed in this galaxy “Miraz said Vi’retess smiled “and together with the help of our rebel friends we will bring it about”
