The very serious subject of Lando's fiber intake

Post by mojo » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:43 am

Thanks to forum poster l33telboi we now have a chance to address a serious issue in the Star Wars universe.. the debate over whether or not Lando is getting enough fiber in his diet. He was kind (and wise) enough to point out that in the following picture, Lando seems to be suffering from severe constipation:

Of course we all know that since the release of 'The Return of the Jedi', Star Wars fans have been debating whether a lack of fiber or some other dietary factor caused this horror. With the release of 'The Empire Strikes Back: The Director's Cut' on DVD, the issue may finally be laid to rest with the addition of two lines of dialogue that were cut from the original theatrical edition. Remember, near the end of the movie, when Lando helps Luke into the Millennium Falcon?

On the commentary track, Lucas explains that he cut this line from the film because test audiences found it 'ludicrous' and 'completely absurd'. Perhaps that was for the best, since it gave us all something to talk about all those years! It must be said that some critics of Lucas claim that these lines were never intended to be in the film at all, giving as evidence the fact that these lines sound as if they were not voiced by Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams but rather by Lucas himself, and voices can be heard laughing in the background.

With the topic of bathrooms in the Star Wars universe at least indirectly raised, the controversial 'Lando can't find any toilet paper anywhere on Cloud City fer chrissakes' scene is also fair game. In this newly added scene, Lando stops Leia and Chewy in their mad dash to save Han Solo from Boba Fett to find a restroom.

After several stops along the way, becoming more and more desperate for relief, he eventually curses the day he agreed to commercially endorse a laxative in exchange for a lifetime supply of said laxative to relieve his periodic cheese binges:

Seconds before Leia, Chewy, and Lando board the Falcon to escape Cloud City, in yet another controversial addition to the film, Lando again stops the group. This time, he grabs Leia's hand, complaining of a strange odor:

(Can you spot the continuity error in the above scene? Han is clearly in the scene, even though he already threw himself into the carbonite freezing apparatus in order to escape Leia's stinkfist!)

This brings us to the last change made to the film, an addition even more hotly controversial than Greedo shooting first..
